LOL. Oh well, I guess I will chime in - it has been a while for me. Universe vs. universe? Q. And a dozen other high-level reality altering species. And various temporal agencies. Not to mention the Borg - they alone could take down the SW universe.

If we are talking fleet to fleet action - SW wins due to strategic concerns. Tactically they are outmatched on virtually every front - even if you factor in that moronic gigaton firepower that Curtis Saxton gave every ship in his illustrated SW books. ST ships are tactically faster, more maneuverable, have shields that allow them to survive in more difficult conditions (corona of a star), can cloak, etc. Not to mention immensely better fire control and targeting capabilities.

Not to mention that the SW universe appears to be populated by mildly retarded people - virtually no technological or scientific progress in the 40 years between Ep1 and Ep3. And that's if we ignore horrible computer systems that they were able to imagine/implement with 1970's special effects. If you take books into account - the ones that mention technology from hundreds of years ago - then it becomes just sad.

Nerdiest answer ever spoken:
Lightsabers deflect anything but other lightsabers and Cortosis.
And shotguns. And phasers set to wide beam. And rocks. And lots of blasters fired at once, from multiple directions. And grenades. :)

This raises possibly the nerdiest question ever asked.

Do lightsabers deflect phasors? o_O
Nope - not if the phasers are set on wide beam - like 10-20 degree dispersal. :)

And star wars is just a typical story about heroes having a space cowboy, and a futuristic asmatic nazi cyborg in the cast
Actually, its more a story that rips off history a fair bit. Annakin (sp?) was "born of the force" or whatever the hell happened. Irregardless, his mother didn't ride the hobby horse to conceive him. Virgin birth anyone?
And then theres the whole Jedi elimination business. Also taken from history. I'm going to assume you all know who the Knights Templar are. Well, history tells us that they were "proper minted" and held a lot of power in 14th century Europe, particularly France. So, in cahoots with the Pope, the King of France conspired to have the Knights Templar removed once and for all (cue evil cackle and mustache twiddling) So he sent letters to all his troops to be opened on Friday the thirteenth, which said "Kill dem templar doodz" Or something to that effect, at least.
So on that Friday, the French soldiers opened the letters and had themselves a Templar slaying field day. (And is the reason that Friday the 13th is now considered unlucky, it certainly was for the Templars.) Now, if you remember that point in the 3rd remake, all the clone soldiers get the order at the same time to kill all the Jedi. Somewhat similar don't you think?
As for the whole point of this topic, well, it would probably be an even fight, depending on who actually was involved and what toys they could play with.

wow score points for teaching me something and being able to not bore me to peices about history. are you some awesome history teacher or something?

How do Borg shields react to ion cannons? (ionized particle beams?)

Hell, let's toss some other factions into the fun, break out of the Star Wars vs. Star Trek retro-mold....

How about..

The Galactic Empire (of Palpatine) vs The Imperium of Man (WH40K): Yes, AT-ATs were nifty, but an Imperium Titan would walk on on a leash, like a dog. And Star Destroyers? Pshaw, fear the might of the Imperial Navy! And forget about the SSD Eclipse versus any Hive Fleet ....

The United Federation of Planets Trek vs Muad'dib's Fedaykin: Fanatical religious zealots by the *billions* trumps enlightened pacifistic societies... any day..

Kligons vs. Daleks: EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!

Death Star vs Space Cruiser Yamato: eh, on one hand, both possess the power to destroy a planet. On the other hand, the Yamato can *manuever*.

Borg vs. Tyranids: Borg - "Resistance is Futile. We shall add your biological diveristy to our own". Tyranid Trygon - "Hissss.... :chomp:".

I mean, come on, let's put some REAL VARIETY into this!

Yes, yes I am.

wanted to teach history, but people disagree with my interpretation of the events of World War 2...

APPARENTLY, there Nazi forces didn't have mecha, the Americans didn't fly giant B-52 bombers kamakazi style into the vatican, the leader of the Russian forces wasn't Yakov Smirnoff, and Japanese Kates and Zeros weren't flown using the Wiimote. Shows what these so called historians know.
You forgot the elite force of Chinese Panda's that took Kyushu for 2 months in 1944 before being driven out by a unit of magically powered riceballs and Sushi.

the only problem with this comparison it is like comparing the star trek universe vs us in about 100 years sure we could do some dmg to them but just by sheer attrition that would win the fight. here is a nice link that will give you some info on the subject http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uT7U50Kpl9A so by that starwars would win for sure. just my two cents.

Not just pwns, it catches them speeding, takes 'em out of the car, and gives them a good time.
(The speeding thing is a joke with some friends, but it involves lots of pain.)

Star Wars wins for three reasons

It's WAY older : "Long ago, in a galaxy far far away"
The Force pwns Reversing the Tachyon Flow.
Jar Jar is nothing compared to Neelix.

Sir Alec Guinness vs. Patrick Stewart? No score draw.

Trek gains a point for "The Trouble with Tribbles", especially Dax in a short skirt.
Star Wars loses a point for The Christmas Special.

2-1 on aggregate.

Eh? Why the hell are people saying that tech in 'wars is more advanced that it is in 'trek? Trekkies have universal constructors instead of microwaves for chrisakes! 'wars doesn't even HAVE that technology, they still have to MINE all their raw materials. Trekkies could outfit every person on a starship with lightsaber-proof armor in a matter of minutes!

Don't even get me started on creative uses for transporters (another ridiculously powerful tech that is conspicuously absent from Starwars).

Star Wars is the greatest thing that ever happened to anything! It's just awesome! I have never got into Star Trek, I don't know why, it just doesn't appeal. The reason I think is simply Jedi.
I want to be a Jedi...

Because Wars had that level of tech a millenia ago. Trek still doesn't have cloning.

Teleporters are like toys against the might of the Dark Side.
