I'm much more run 'n' gun, by gun 'n' run will do. However, to be fair I haven't really played any good stealth games, only the occasional forced stealth level that many developers feel must be included.

I think I'm more inclined to play a stealthy, strategic character, but I'd be lying if I said that charging headfirst into a fray with my shotgun spitting death into hordes of defenders wasn't fucking awesome.

So yeah, I enjoy stealth gameplay when it makes sense, and when my character is weaker. But if I have the luxury of every possible advantage over my foes, then I'll be the first to charge blindly into a group of enemies with my melee weapon of choice.

It depends on the game. If you're supposed to be stealthy, a la MGS or Hitman, I am. However if I'm playing Fallout I'll happily shotgun everything in the face rather than creep around.

I prefer stealth over run n gun. That's why I like playing as the infected in Left 4 dead. You have to make sure they don't know where you are before you strike, and you're not up against some stupid AI, you're against real people. If they see you they'll hunt you down and kill you.

Use a fucking paragraph dude.
Great Wall Of Text!
That was by no means a wall of text - it's only seventeen lines - it was only a paragraph. I was going to write more (though that would've had a line break in it) but I decided against it. It seems to me that a lot of people are afraid of reading or writing more than just one or two lines, it's kind of disappointing really.

Edit.
It is, but it would be hard to read for some though. Turning 4 or so lines into a paragraph means more people are likely to read it, it's really for your benefit than anyone elses.

It doesn't really take the immersion out of the game unless it's meant to be a stealth game. Realism shouldn't really come into a lot of these games if they are there for the escapism factor.

That being said, stealth. One isn't better than the other really. I prefer the cunning I have to use for it to work. Run n Gun is good fun though, but if I were to pick one or the other, stealth is more enjoyable for me.

Stealth, when executed well. Not in the way that enemies dont notice their buddy being strangled 5 feet away as long as their backs are turned..

I do enjoy ambushing and using tactics (cover, flanking, etc.) but at the end of the day, I'm setting everything up to gun everything down as soon as I can, with as many bullets as I can.

Stealth is generally the best way for you to handle a situation.

However, there are those rare instances where screaming and running at the enemy will shock them so much that they will offer little in the way of resistance. Because what can you do against crazy people?

i hate stealth , i just can't seem to sneak without getting caught and the fact that the enemy like in splinter cell have bulletproof lights that drives me quackers also the thought of tippie toeing past an enemy when you can shoot the sob is more satisfying as for the stealth mechanics they still can't get it right ,if the enemy can afford bulletproof lights why no night vision goggles?

when given the option between the two, i will initially act like an anarchist, destroying anything and everything regardless of whether i am supposed to.

however, after a while, this starts to get boring, so i then start to favour stealth gameplay, or at least be more strategic in my destruction of everything.

How about Gears Of War 2. You know the new deleted scene that gives you the options: Stealth or Guns Blazing?

I would like to have the choice. Still waiting for a game where it's possible and easy to be stealthy, yet still possible and easy to shoot everyone in the face while screaming bloody murder.

If anyone makes this game PM me. Then marry me. Make the main character Natalie Portman.

A mix is usual the best combo. Use the stealth to get you in a good position then either proceed to blast them to bits

Not really sure, i prefer an awesome shooter with some sweet stealth sections like in Call of Duty 4's 'All Ghillied Up'

I have always found it useful to employ stealth whenever possible. I have never liked the idea of the one man to take on an entire army. Besides, there is something satisfying about hearing the, "Tick," of a suppressed MP5 and then hiding the body of your fallen adversary just as a partol is about to pass near your location. I have played many a mission like that in several different games, and it never stops being cool.

I prefer stealthing and sniping my way through the my opponents. The last game of MGS4 I played, I did nothing but silent weapons (And the railgun, 'cause Gecko annoy me). 0 Alerts, and just shy of 1,000 kills. =D Though some of that was admittedly farming... Sitting in one place with full camo with the silenced EBR and just picking people off as they run through your FOV.

Then there's games like CoD: WaW, where it's more fun for me to sprint into the biggest mass of badguys possible with nothing but my knife and my hand gun. Good times.

The perfect FPS always has both and the freedom to approach any situation in the manner that suits you at the time. Two games in one.

e.g. Goldeneye 007 for the N64.
