Poll: Steam only gamers?

I'm wondering if there are groups of people who find that they buy and play all of their PC games on Steam nowadays. Not from discs or gog.com, but Steam only?

I'm interested if knowing if there are groups of people Valve are selling too who they are purely persuading to buy games, instead of persuading to buy their games on steam rather than other platforms. It's relevant because if there are significant percentage it's good motivation for closed platforms like MS or Sony to move towards similar sales models, but if they do it in response to competition and to make their platform more dominant over other PC platforms then we might have even less chance of seeing console companies move towards better sales.

If you have a console that doesn't stop you from being Steam only on the PC for the sake of this poll. Also if you used to buy games on other platforms in the past but now buy only Steam I'd consider you still as a steam only user

I mostly buy from Steam, but I occasionally buy from gog.com, green man gaming, amazon, etc. I just buy wherever I'll get the best deal, and with steam's constant sales, that usually ends up being steam.

I get most of my games on Steam.

Recently being making use of Greenmangaming.com. They basically sell Steam codes for cheap. Not sure how they get away with it actually.

Don't really use GoG.com since their lineup is mostly old and starting to smell a bit.

For PS3 games I either import from the UK (ozgameshop.com) or, if I'm feeling impatient, bend over and just go to a Australian retail outlet.

Generally I'll buy from Steam because it's cheap and convenient but you gotta go with the best deals sometimes. If that means buying from GreenManGaming to get Bioshock Infinite and 3 other full price/not budget games for £25... well I guess I'll take one for the team.

I haven't bought a game on Steam for a while. I pretty much only buy stuff off em on the holiday sales.

Not counting Battlefield 3, all my games on the PC are from Steam.

And Battlefield 3 is enough for me to realize how much better Steam is than Origin.

My collection of PC games is about 90% indie bundles. The fact that they normally have Steam codes is a huge plus, because I actually REALLY REALLY like the interface of Steam, and having all my games in one shiny location. So much so, that I add non-steam games to my library whenever I get one. I have quite a few games on Desura, but I absolutely cannot stand their interface/ sorting options.

So, yeah. The vast majority of my stuff is Steam.

not buying many new games at the moment due to saving money but basing my opinion on when I have a proper gaming PC rather than a laptop I'd still be wary of steam, they have great offers but I'm kind of worried of it collapsing and loads of peoples games being lost, not likely to happen soon but I dont want to be invested if/when it does

I buy mostly from Steam because of their sales but everyone has great sales nowadays so I've been roaming a bit. I have a modest collection from GoG as well since I like their lack of DRM so I try to patronage whenever possible.

The same way retailers can sell physical copies of games that still require Steam activation, I guess? It would be a bit of a monopoly otherwise.

Greenman is where I go for new PC games most of the time. And then Steam for good sales, and gog for anything that Steam carries at the same price/older games I want to play.

I'll generally go out of my way to avoid steam if I can get a hold of a copy of a game without DRM. That being said, sometimes the deals are just too good. So rarely I'll buy from there. I don't buy any AAA games on PC typically, which is why I can usually manage to get DRM free games.

I tend to buy the majority of my games from GoG.com assuming they have what I want. This is one of the major problems with most of the AAA games that come to PC. You can usually only get them on Steam, a service I don't want to use but what can you do? If you want to support the devs behind a great game you have to settle with buying from steam

One thing I started doing about 6 months ago is to go to the developers website to see if I can cut out the middle man and pay the devs directly. Generally I can get the games even cheaper from the devs and I can have the satisfaction that I know it all goes to them instead of a DD service taking a cut and of course the bonus of that is I don't have to deal with steams annoying DRM

most of my games are from steam, but that was just because of all the deals they had in a row back before amazon/greenmangaming/GoG started to offer as good/better deals

so now a days it's mostly a 50/50 split, i always just go for the best deal and depending on how much of a pain in the ass the drm is.

steam has a very nice overlay and is not a pain in the ass when it comes to drm, so it doesn't bug me,
but origin,directdrive,etc...

curious, what dev's are you directly buying from? and where are you finding it "cheaper" than the services?

i'm not mocking you or anything, i generally would like to know so i can do the same.

(unless you're one of those bloody indie hipster gamers...*shudders* just kidding)

The physical copy thing is a bit different because that's because the developer has chosen to use Steam as disc-based DRM. I don't know if they pay Valve for the DRM or Valve gives it out for free so more people get hooked to steam. I'd be quite interested in finding out how Greenmangaming does it because they don't directly make or publish the games, so somehow they're able to sell steam games cheaper than you can get them on steam? I guess they probably pay Steam a cut for every sale they make, so maybe most of the really good deals are loss leaders or steam gives them a margin which they cut in on a lot

I think Steam holds the largest amount of games of all other sources. But then again, I also have GMG and GameFly games on there. I'm too lazy to count how many, but not too many, though. The second biggest collection of games I have is on GOG. I love 'em, they just don't offer enough games, or I'd have had more there. Also...erm, I'm broke, or I would have funded them during the Summer sale (though, I do have most of the games I want already). I think GMG comes after and then the Humble bundles.

I don't think I've ever bought a game direct through Steam - my brother has given me a bunch of games as gifts on there, and I've redeemed a few Humble Bundle games through it as well, but that's about it.

Have bought several titles through GOG though.

Personally I'm a console gamer at heart so I usually play on my consoles, mainly my PS3, PS2, and my Wii for GameCube games.

The only games I really wanted to get for sure on my PC were the Fallout games, Sonic Generations, Oblivion, and AudioSurf. I have other games, but those were just bundled with the ones I wanted. mainly I just wanted to mod the heck out of the Fallout/Oblivion/Sonic games, and just have fun with Audiosurf. Could do without the DRM, but it's not that bad when compared to others and unfortunately all the publishers for the games I wanted you have to go through Steam in order to get. Well except for the older Fallouts, but sadly they were cheaper than they were on GOG (yes the Summer sale got me last year).
