Cyberpunk for me. Not just cos Neuromancer was one of my favorite books, but cos I'd rather be chock full of nanotech awesomeness than have a clockwork leg.

Neither, transhumanism, which is pretty much cyberpunk without all the negative side effects of technology. It's more about utopia then dystopia.

cyberpunk- it's more powerful and more advanced weather you like it or not
"The sky above the port was the color of television, tuned to a dead channel."
That sounds so familiar, would it happen to be the starting of Neuromancer?

Why must I choose? I want all! ALLL DAMMIT!!!

Both are excellent concepts that provide the potential for all soughts of wild imaginations!

SteamPunk;
- It's the civil war and the Confederacy have developed giant steam-powered engines that walk!
- In the aftermath of the Martian invasion of Britain, long time rivals France have decided to invade! The Empire in response reveals their new terrible weapon call the heat ray.
- Creators of a new boat that submerges and moves under water, upon their maiden cruise, discover an unearthly under water city beneath the oceans of the pacific.
- Difference Engines, Clockwork men, Utopian Cities!

CyberPunk;
- Cyberware, Bioware, Nanotech! Soylent Green!!
- An evil corporation hires mercs to hit their own lab where experiments have gone awry creating Cyberzombies!
- People can now link their brains directly into the internet. Intellectual progress as now reached an all time high, but at what cost to our humanity?
- Too appease a growing desensitised population, a cable network creates a reality TV show where the contestants must become serial killers. Cybertechnology is fitted into the contestants that transmit their primal brain functions and adrenaline surges directly to the viewer.

Yesssss...The possibilities are endless...BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Steampunk. I love the inlays and the finishes to Steampunk devices. I wish Steampunk Airships exist. We call them AIRSHIPS.

steampunk, definitely. Mostly for the aesthetic really, I mean you never see cyborgs wearing top hats, and if you can just have a prosthetic leg, why get a cane?

Also, it hasn't been used as much as cyberpunk, or at least it doesn't feel like it has. Just wait until Bethesda does a Steampunk game, then everybody will jump on the bandwagon (haven't you noticed the rise in post-apocalyptic stuff since Fallout 3?)
I disagree, steampunk seems to be getting a much better run lately. Games series like bioshock are very clearly defined within the genre (just a top of the head AAA example), wheras I can't think of any serious cyberpunk game since dues ex (even Dystopia was a few years ago now).

If the OP means which would I rather live in, I'd say cyberpunk, it seems to be easier to get shit done (though is arguably less cool).

Pretty sure Atomic Robo Tesla would wear one given the chance.

Keep in mind that WoW is borderline steampunk, especially with the engineering skill.
