Greetings fellow news joke seekers. I have a question that was arroused last weekend over a few drinks. The question of which show was better: Daily Show or Colbert report? Feel free to take part in the poll, but a why you like said option would be appreciated.

As for me it was simple, I enjoy The Colbert Report more, because I grow tired of Jon Stewarts impressions of every story he tells, which he loves to prolong. Colbert to me is a funnier show, and I like the fake over the top patriotism. He has quite humerous portions of the show (favorites are threat down, and tip of the hat, wag of the finger). The only thing I believe the daily show totes more appeal is the interviewers he has on staff, which generally provides 90% of the comedy per episode.

So, for curiosities sake, lemme know what you think.

Colbert, of course.

The man has comic timing that Stewart simply lacks. Hence, superior performance in my eyes.

I like them both equally and I'm glad Comedy Central runs them back to back so I can watch both shows.

I haven't seen Colbert Report, it's possible my country doesn't air it.
I'll agree with anyone that says Jon Stewart doesn't know how to deliver jokes properly.
Some of the material is good in theory, but he always butchers it.

jon because he always take sthe piss out of news reporting, and i believe that news reporters have entirely too much piss, and desperately need it to be taken out of them. colbert is funny, but he feels a bit too one-trick-pony-ish. meanwhile jon breaks it up with some funny reporters and a serious bit with an interview.

John Stewart for sure. Colbert is funny indeed, but he was much funnier before everyone knew he was joking. In any case, I still watch both shows every night!

Daily Show - Colbert Report is basically a one man show. Colbert is in many ways a lot more talented than Stewart, but eventually you get tired of him. True, his impressions and jokes are good - but Daily Show has a ton of correspondents and on the scene reports. Interviews with more people on location, etc. More personalities. More variety.

I don't care for many of Jon Stewarts's correspondents. There are a few examples of greatness, but I find most of them (especially the cast now, except Jamie Oliver) to be very bad..

So if we're going by show, it goes to colbert.. But I really like Jon Stewart himself, so if we're going between the two of them personnally, it goes to stewart, because Colbert is a one trick pony.. He does that trick REALLY WELL, but it's still just one trick.

I'm glad Bush is almost gone just so Stewart will stop with the impersonation soon though

Jon Stewert usually isn't as funny, but he often does a better critique of the media. I don't find any problems with his timing and can think of a few perfect examples. ("Even though we are using the fear voice and the fear sound we're just trying to say.. (perfect comedic pause) ... hey man, everything's cool"

For those that don't like him, look up his Crossfire appearance.

Colbert usually ignores the news to go for more stand up jokes which usually work very well. The Word is always hilarious. He's also a way better actor. I also like it when he cuts loose and gets really harsh. (paraphrasing) "American's should protest against Bush to prove to the rest of the world we're not Nazis"You wouldn't believe the lies they're saying against Mccain... He ran an honest intelligent campaign"

Those that don't like him should see the White House correspondent's speech.

yeah, Colbert is definately a better actor.. But he's acting all the time in his show (well, most of the time)

Stewart doesn't act at all in his show basically.. Not in a dramatic sense at least.

Colbert also managed to keep his show almost as funny during the writer's strike.. Stewart wasn't able to keep it as funny..

Jon Stewart FTW.
This. Colbert's humor tends to grate after awhile for me, but I always come back to Jon Stewart. Besides... Fareed Zakaria. He's been on the show, what, six times? Ahhh...

PS, nice avatar Axia.

I find that Colbert is funny in small doses, but he's just trying too hard nowadays. I actually like the way John Stewart delivers jokes, because he actually laughs at them. I find that somewhat endearing, but I don't know why. And not when people laugh at their own jokes. Plus, I like Jon Stewart's interviews better by leaps and bounds.

While Colbert is probably the funnier of the pair, Stewart still remains my pick. First of all, Stewart has that ability to think up something funny on the spot, a skill which most comedians today lack and desperately need. Secondly, and lets face it folks, you actually learn more from watching the Daily Show than you do the Colbert Report. On several occasions, I was surprised by just how insightful Jon Stewart's banters can be. hell. I even quoted the guy in an essay once, an essay which I ACED, by the way!

I enjoy them equally. I enjoy Stewart's fun-poking act toward the media and the government along with his insightful banter. And whatever Stewart lacks in funny jokes, Colbert is right behind him to make even more fun at a subject.

On a side note, I wish to pronounce a moment of silence for the death of the 'Better Know a District' series. The cause? Most of you probably know that Congress had advised it's house representatives to not be interviewed by the man, rendering the aforementioned series dead.

I'm slightly biased towards Colbert because he and I are native South Carolinians-- both born in Charleston.

I enjoy both shows, though.
