Hey, I couldn't help but notice that gangsters aliens and cyborgs don't fall in the people category, what up with that? As a alien cyborg I am very much offended. Some gangsters probably are too

Anyway, in all seriousness i think insects could stand a go.

They're scary, dangerous, and a lot of them are fast.
They'll have to figure out that size problem though

I'm going with insect since there are people who already hate them.
The thing about zombie (by al means I still hate zombies in games) is that they were the perfect thing for people pour their hates into and zombie lack intelligent to be offended. This may come across as over thinking it but let say cyborg or alien become the new zombie but when cyborg or alien had appear in real life and seen they were the target in games, they will be offended by it.
Ok yes the same can be said if there were insect people or they had obtained intelligent but I would the first problem is the haters to stop hating them.
But just like I said, I'm over thinking about this.

I really don't mind zombies, except for when they are always the same, and somehow supposed to be a big threat.
I think that pretty much wraps up Dead Rising games, The zombies were only dangerous in hordes.

I voted cyborgs.

Mutants - fast zombies.
Giant insects are cool and all, but the square/cubed law really ruins their effectiveness.
People - okay, name an unsympathetic human enemy that hasn't been done to death already.
Aliens - *shrug* Can be done well, but they kinda lose that sense of tragedy that zombies had.
Robots - Faceless, soulless, and they blow up real good. This is my #2 choice.
Gangsters - Meh.

I'm thinking more along the lines of "lost all humanity to the machine" cyborg. Still alive, still capable of rational thought, empathy, tactical reasoning, probably even speech. But no sense of morality. Or maybe they got brainwashed by their implants. From what I've heard and seen, System Shock did this sort of thing really well (I've never played it, sadly).
My vote went for cyborgs aswell. Mainly due to my love for System Shock 2.

So why haven't you played it? You can easily get hold of it and get it running on modern systems.

Agreed... mainly because I'm not partial to zombies. Not sure what I'd replace them with though...

I like zombies, I would like to see more and better Zombie games, but I digress...

What I would like to have as antagonist is pretty easy, something society finds cute and innocent.

Let's do a game where you can viciously maim, crush, decapitate and slay children. Those annoying toddlers are too cute for you? Well how about teenagers then? They are smelly, angst ridden and they come in different flavors: nerd, bully, broad, geek and emo. Butchering them would really be quite stress relieving for a change. Don't you think?

If that is still not political correct enough for you feel free to be offended, but I have another proposition, we could enjoy another slaughter fest of something cute, pervertedly popular and innocent.

How about a game where you have to stop the invasion of the "friendship-rainbow-ponies" which try to mind-f*ck and enslave humanity with their "friendship-hyped internet phenomenon" methods while you, the main manly but slightly homophobic and mysogenist protagonist are one of the last unaffected - immune to their effects of mind control and thus you embark on a quest to butcher, flail and burn every freaking blinking rainbow pony you can find.
That would be very satisfying. People could use this to relieve stress, violence against children (and ponies) would decrease and everybody would be happy.

A survival horror with sufficiently terrifying humanoid aliens, like the 8ft ones I see in the shadows at night (not joking). They have extreme terror potential. Fill the entire game with sentient aliens which can mind-rape you, which are much more advanced than you, your only hope is to evade them and their eldritch screams.

eh all those have been done before...why not Nazi's?
That's Racist though.
='( (I'm German, Scottish and Irish too so it may cancel that out)
Rubbish. National Socialism is a political ideology, not a race. It's no different to any other game where the enemy is human. Russia is the popular enemy of choice for western games at the moment, but previously it's been Middle Eastern terrorists, North Korea got a look in recently and we've all enjoyed kicking shit out of the Nazi war machine for years in countless games.

It's only racist if you're saying "let's go shoot this lot because they come from [country X]"

On the other hand, if there is a context for it - somebody has to be the bad guys after all - then I don't have a problem with it. I'm Scottish, and I never thought twice about our inclusion in Medieval: Total War as little more than cannon-fodder because it was in context (specifically in this case a historical one).

[EDIT] Damn ninjas...

Zombies...

Is there another enemy that is truly as scary as a zombie? Anything else that will kill you, make you into one of them, and make you kill everyone/everything you once loved?

I just love the idea of zombies... but I guess I have to choose... I say "Aliens"

...but only because of The Flood...

...which are Alien Zombies...

Shooting Germans is so boring, especially when it sticks to alot of the old cliches. Nazis are a byword for poor AI. I don't care what people say, it would be fun to play as the Wehrmacht or SS for once, and fight the war from their perspective. Even if they are doomed as the losing side, let's see how they do when they have a one-man juggernaut on their side.

I want to play a game where you get to fight something like the Reavers from Firefly. Now that would be freaky.
This, right here. I would love to see a game wherein reavers exist in one form or another, if not a well thought out, properly executed Firefly game. you know there had to be more awesome smuggler/scavengers out there...

Technically, some zombie games were based around mutants (as in infected people). In those cases, they get pretty freaky, so I vote mutants.

I hated The Flood in the Halo series...the reason Reach is my favorite (other than being able to dress as a pink space-marine-cyborg) is the fact that there isn't a single Flood of any form!

I would replace zombies with the other kind of zombie: SKELETONS!!
QFT. Reach isn't my favorite for story, but I can't tell you how happy I was to not have one single, solitary Flood level. No pitch-black levels, no shit-that-turns-into-turrets with anal openings for doors levels, no a-ha a-ha a-ha sound, NO ZOMBIES. ANYWHERE. It was glorious!

So yes, I think zombies are long past tired and, along with steampunk and vampires, need to take a nap and get out of the nerdish zeitgeist for a while.

(Although that said, better zombies than insects. There's an entire section of an otherwise favorite game that I've never completed because it has scads of the sort that I'm phobic of-- friends have said "unless you want a panic attack and weeks of nightmares, don't play that part" and I've taken their advice.)

Nope it isn't. Nazism is ideology. Also, i can't exactly understand : what has it (you being German) to do with "racist thoughts" ?

OT : Robots ! People replaced with robots. :)

I've always been fond of the werewolf. I also agree with theemporer, so many things can be made into demons.
