This generation has been goin on awhile... so I'll just showcase the newest ones I've played recently: Gravity Rush.

It is a shame that such a beautiful game is stuck on the Vita's tiny screen. That there's a game that deserves to be drunk in from a large screen. I really wish more games would use this visual style. Because it is just amazing, the type of thing that will still look amazing well down the line.

OT: There are a lot more shooters than there were last generation. Some have been good some have been bad, but I wouldn't say there have been too many.
It's a shame that people with Simpson avatars will wax poetic about things they don't have...

The screen is much larger than any other handheld system, but your kiddy tablets have shit operating systems that can't compete with real game systems... but since you don't own it, you want to talk down at it.

That's a spoiled American type prejudice dood.

Did you ever learn about cables? You know, those things that can connect things to each other? Savvy? Eh?

It's sad, just like hearing about a PC gamer that can't use his HD tv, but has to use his over priced 'monitor'.

lol

monitors
Wow, you got a lot of anger just bubbling at the top, don't ya? Just jump down a guys throat for anything. In the future, I'll refrain from commenting on the size of a portable console's screen, as apparently, that's a touchy subject for some people.
Anger?

Yeah, I got tons. Not sure why you'd want to call me out on that... unless...

YOU WANT TO PLAY THE GAME?!?!?!?!?!1

Err, uhmmm...

You look down on handhelds... it's okay, I did too for a long time.

I forgive you.
I don't look down on handhelds one bit. It's just that, when I see an amazingly beautiful game tied to a handheld, I wish the screen wasn't a few inches across. Trust me, if I could afford a Vita, I'd get one. There are several games for it that I'd love to play, but I don't have the disposable income to plop down $250+ for a new system, seeing as my family can barely pay the rent and all. Maybe if the economy wasn't in the shitter and i could actually get a job, I would.

Also, what 39 games does imahobbit own? That sounds like a hell of a lot of games in the first place
You do realise there are a lot of us around here with well over a hundred games in our collections?

39 games is pretty low.
Thats pretty messed up man...Dont be that kind of guy that acts like a badass just because you say over the internet that he sucks. Truthfully the 39 games he has non gaming equals the games I have all together-and hes got another 11 shooters on top of that. Its not about what you have its what others compare to. If one person thinks that someone with 5 games is alot then that is a lot to that guy if its 293 games that's alot then respect it. Got it.
Off-topic: there are bound to be websites with lists of all the games available for the xbox(if not just the best of them all) and even then if you look there are definitely more nonshooters then shooters(though they as an individual game rarely have the support to advertise enough) and many of them have more playability then a shooter as well depending on your playstyle that is

Examples of games that aren't shooters, you ask OP?

inFamous
Elder Srolls
Darksiders
God of War
Dragon Age
Saint's Row
Journey
Bit.Trip.Beat
Prototype
Enslaved
Xenoblade
Portal (by means of you don't actually shoot enemies)
Terraria
Torchlight
Diablo
Dark Souls
Skyward Sword
Twilight Princess
Super Mario Galaxy
New Super Mario Bros
MINECRAFT!

Do you need more, or are you happy that there's not just shooters in our market?
New IP's dood... sure you listed some of the same ones I did... but your list needs to be more on topic, savvy?
Oh, my mistake. Here, I'll pull an addendum. Just for you, I'll throw on a few more.

Dragon's Dogma
'Splosion Man
Fez
Catherine
Bastion
World of Warcraft
Epic Mickey
Dead Rising
Amnesia
Super Meat Boy
VVVVVV
Limbo
No More Heroes
Dante's Inferno
Bayonetta
Trine
Valkyria Chronicles

All of these are within the past few years, and all of the above are only this generation of platforms. Is that enough new IP for you, or do we need to keep dancing?

No, there's just too little of everything else.

Shooters are getting new IPs.
Strategy is only getting sequels. Even if they end up being good, games like XCOM and Elemental FE are still not new IPs.

About 97% percent of my game collection consists of non-FPS's (80% if you also count games with a different perspective or where shooting stuff is not the primary kind of gameplay). Plenty of those are recent games and new IP's. So yeah, it's really not difficult at all to find other kinds of games.

Oh, and this is not because my tastes are so non-conformative. Here is a list of the best selling games from 2011 I just Googled:

www.cnbc.com/id/44595477/The_Best_Selling_Video_Games_of_2011

As you can see, it contains only one FPS (I don't count Portal 2 and L.A. Noire as shooters). This probably isn't the most reliable source and it's from September, so it doesn't contain Skyrim (also not a shooter). It's probably also about US and not international sales. However it is a good indication that, while Modern Warfare might be one of the best-selling franchises at the moment, shooters definitely aren't the only thing 'the masses' still buy nowadays.

I do agree that the market is oversaturated with shooters though. But that's just due too uncreative developers aping a single game's success. I don't think it is a major problem; and solely concentrating on shooters probably won't remain a good business strategy for long.

Arcade/Indie games tend to do well, look at how far Minecraft has come.

Yeah, there really is lots, but some of those you've mentioned don't really count...

Kingdom's of Amalur was (apparently) a commercial fail, 38 Studios are now none-existent because of it.

Saints row, Mirror's Edge, The Witcher, Kameo and Portal have been around for nearly half a decade.
