Grenades... Who needs pesky blades and bullets? They don't really get the job done... However, a well-placed explosion will kill them indefinitely.

I was looking at my shelf of games, and couldn't help to think that like attracts like. I have way more fantasy games than modern games, for example. This got me thinking. If all games were equal, ie: COD had swords, or Oblivion had guns for example, would it make a difference to the weapons you'd use? Are there any scenarios that alternative weapons would make more enjoyable gameplay?

Note: I'm aware that Fallout is basically Oblivion with guns, but it's hard to think of a recent fantasy game off the top of my head that didn't include guns.
WHY CAN I NOT CHOOSE "GUNBLADE" ON THIS POLL!?

Swords continuously get duller the more you use them. So yes, they do have an ammo limit, it's just higher than guns.

OT: I prefer to go with melee when I can because it's more exciting, but there's also joy to be had with picking off enemies from a distance with a sniper rifle.

Now if (in the alternate and much more awesome world where vigilantee justice is allowed and actually works) if a serial killer bursts into my house, I'm gonna gun him down and enjoy it...
Also, having a gun just gives so many opportunities for totally awesome sayings, such as:

"you can show yourself out, or my friend here can help"

"this is a .454 raging bull....that should really be all i have to say"

"My buddy here has be dying the meet some new friends"

"....i have a gun"

Well, I'll just hit it with a hammer. Good as new.

Look the gun is definately a better weapon than the sword (in most situations) because history proves. But I still prefer the sword it's up close and personal and much more honorable than sniping some one from hunderes of feet away.

I knew someone would say this. Yes, guns have limited ammo, but they can hurt someone beyond 2 meters, so there.

While it is hard to hack and slash when you've got a few well-placed bullets in you, it is equally dificult to pump lead into anything that moves when you have no limbs!!

But seriously, I did vote "other" because I'd prefer both.
Hell, even Grammaton Cleric John Preston sliced, diced, and julienned some baddies when bullets weren't enough.

Who says I dont have a reeeeeally long sword? Plus maybe you have horrible aim? Maybe Im really sneaky? Maybe I wouldnt have made the impending and snarky comment if you didnt say "almost 100% of the time".

Also, I am just being "that person", and have no intention of actually debating this.

Why can't swords and guns get along? It all depends on the situation in my opinion... Of course, I was always particular to Lightning's weapon.

That's what I thought, but I was started a debate just to be sure.

Well, if I was able to play a stealthy character, I would most certainly run around cutting people up.

"Let's see how you fire that gun... WITH NO HANDS!"

Sharpening a sword means getting rid of some metal. After a certain amount of time the sword will lose its functionality.
Swords can also rust over time, depending on where you fight and whether or not you remember to clean the blade before putting it in its holster.

Swords. I've always liked the more 'traditional' fantasy settings to modern settings such as those found in Call of Duty. Besides, swords are infinitely cooler-looking than guns.
Debatable.
Well of course it is, anything is. As a general rule though, in my opinion, game swords look cooler than game guns.

I think I like swords because I prefer less-realistic settings in the games I play, and guns are generally indicative of a real-world setting, or at least more indicative of that than swords are.
