Swords. Swords. Swords.

I want it to be my strength killing the enemy not gunpowder accelerated metal.

I prefer swords. I mean, from a gameplay perspective assuming there are no twists involved, you point a gun at a guy, shoot him, he's dead. Some guy shoots you, you can't move fast enough to dodge a bullet (usually,) you die. Whereas a sword fight (or even a fist fight for that mater) conveys a lot more options.

Heck, even Bruce Lee said that he'd rather use a gun in a real fight than his uber-lvl martial arts. (although that was probably more combat pragmatism than personal preference)
Besides, everyone can shoot a gun (however badly), but not many people know how to behead somebody.

Swords are far more badass for me, but progress dictates that guns are more effective, so I'll lean in that direction.

Swords. I've always liked the more 'traditional' fantasy settings to modern settings such as those found in Call of Duty. Besides, swords are infinitely cooler-looking than guns.
Mostly this because in real life my aim is actually quite bad and this is often reflected when I play video-games where there is no zoom option for ranged weapons, Also guns don't let you pretend to be batman (I play Assassin's creed this way).

In video-games I'd pick swords but in real life and this poll I pick other for sais BO (quarterstaff type thing)and other such that don't see too much time in games but are fun.

I prefer swords because they're just so awesome ;D

In-game i mostly use guns though, swords are always too limited with normal control schemes.

I chose Guns. Why? My friend Indiana Jones will demonstrate:
That's hilarious and also true, in that scenario a gun would most certainly win.

But still, I'm torn. On the one hand practicality says 'use the gun' because it means I don't have to get too close to something trying to kill me. But on the other hand there is a grace and dignity to using a sword and fighting someone face to face that can't be matched in gun play.

So I'm kind of torn.

well.. i was in the army for 6 years.. but i gotta say. when fighting the enemy in real life it's a lot more scary to them when they see a blade at the end of your rifle. and that bayonet is the best way to check to see if the guy you shot is dead. wow that made me sound like a war nutter

(i would use a tatical nuke on a long range missile save the effort or rasin my arm to shoot somebody, and traveling to get him, the lazzy way to win)

also in games i like to use a chainsaw Muha ha ha ha ha

Both at the same time. Nothin' like having the ranged effectiveness of a gun in one hand and having the awesome, close-quarters brutality of a heavy broadsword in the other.

Hm. I'd love to see weapons that aren't as cliche as swords, without being firearms. That said, I'm not a fan of guns in games in general. Unless it's something really unusual. For example, Arcanum, an RPG (that you should play) had a lightning sniper rifle. That was pretty neat.

Hope this isn't getting too off-topic, but one thing that would make me shift way, way further towards the sword side of things? In games, if your weapon has more of an effect than just stats, a gun has more tasks involved. Aiming, reloading, possibly a scope, that sort of thing. It's just more interesting to use. If you have a sword... well, Bethesda games can demonstrate that one. Click, click, click, hit it again. This is why I often go for magic in fantasy RPGs, by the way. Much more fun.

Now, a game with a decent sword-fighting (or just the melee weapon of your choice) system? I'd love to play that. In fact, if anyone knows a game with something like this - say, even, just a fencing mechanic - please let me know.

Aaaand I'd best shut up now. Rambling again, sorry.

If I had to decide, which weapon I'd like to use, I'd choose gun. That's obvious... until I run out of bullets.
I like both. That'd make, a gun with a bayonet. Or a gun with more 'modern' version of bayonet - that is, a chainsaw-bayonet (Gears of War?).

But in terms of being "cool", swords win.
