Tattoos are pretty hot on women but only when they are proper tattoos. No shitty little things picked out of the books.

There needs to be less dolphins and fairies on the waistband.

True. Perhaps they're all heavily into the chaos theory.

Tattoos are my single biggest turnoff---I'm of the mind that the body is a temple and continuing that metaphor, getting a tattoo is like spray painting graffiti on a religious structure.

I fall hard for purity (real or perceived) and a tattoo breaks that in my mind's eye. I tend to fixate on tattoos, which creates a feedback loop.

Note that this is a gender double-standard with me---dudes with tattoos (especially if the dude's got something badass, like that poster earlier who got "Survive" after beating the Big C) are held to a different standard (and mocked mercilessly if they've got something that sucks.) I personally have no desire to get a tattoo, but that's only because I prefer to tell my stories rather than show them (plus, I've got a MASSIVE needle phobia---I can't even watch an injection in a medical show without feeling queasy).

But there are temples that have statues worked into the structure or around them. A tattoo can be looked at the same way.

I have a phobia of needles too, but a tattoo is extremely different. It's just a slightly deeper scratch, and depending on your pain tolerance, might be about just as painful. Depends on the person.

Hmm, I have no tattoos but I think they can be pretty cool if they're well done.
However, I doubt I'd want to walk around with the same ol' picture/text message for the rest of my life/get laser surgery when a relationship ends.
I think I'll pass for now.

I don't have anything against tatoos, and there have been a few that I've actually quite liked. My problem is I have never seen a tatoo that embodies an idea or concept that I believe strongly enough in to warrent permenatly affixing to my person for life.

Also, people who talk about "finising a sleeve" or what have you annoy me more than just about anything. The goal is no longer personal expression of the art, but rather covering a certain square footage of flesh in ink. Seems like they might have missed the point somewhere along the way, and worse, they have forever cemented their image as "low class thug" to the random bypasser.

Anybody every considered branding? For some reason that appeals to me more then regular tattoo's. Mind you I've never done it before (well of course I have been burned sometimes). It's interesting to see what others think about it (besides thinking I must be some sort of emo - which I'm not, and which funnily enough looks like emu, which is a rather funny looking animal - who likes to hurt himself - which I don't necessarily like..)

It's an interesting process, same as scarification. I'd never do the branding, unless I wanted part of a tattoo to look 3D.
I've seen scarification done (almost saw branding but the machine wasn't working properly) and worked in a shop for a while. It depends if the shop has a license for branding or scaring, and some shop owners want nothing to do with those things anyway.

Flesh pulls are fun to watch too.
