Pyro is ambiguously female. Just look at its locker.
Also: Its set in what? The 50's? Yeah... back then, women couldn't serve in the military. I also assume that extends to mercs.
So yeah, time period.

Wanna know why there are no girls in TF2? It's because all the playable characters are clones of the best warriors that the RED and BLU companies could get ahold of. I mean..WHY ELSE DO THE CHARACTERS ON BOTH SIDE LOOK THE SAME AS THERE OTHER SIDE COUNTERPARTS!?

Well first i'd just like to say that I hold onto the assumption that pyro is a girl, but onto the main matter
Yes having female versions of all the characters would be great, it'd cater to a wider demographic, it'd be nice to see something new, yadda yadda, etc. etc.

The game has a 1950's ascetic; female characters don't really fit into it. But, honestly, the game has a complete lack of narrative, so it doesn't really make a difference either way.

Only reason they're male (with the question of Pyro) was they were all re-done versions from Team Fortress Classic, which also had no females. HOWEVER, if you're interested, there are some Female skins for download. Pyro (with jiggly bewbs) and a scout that's had the voice overs all redone by a woman.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
on one hand diversity is nice, on the other, blowing women to chunks seems wrong

As the majority of the women in that picture are scantily clad, and thin, it would make it harder to identify different classes with one glance.

If they can keep with the existing male character designs, or at least continue with the distinctive silhouette rule (that, as Yahtzee said, went out the window with the hats anyway), then sure why not? I mean, yeah that'd take a lot of work designing them all, but I'm confident Valve could do it.

Well pyro may or may not be a girl I suppose. Also, there are unofficial mods that turn some characters female. Gamesbanana has quiet a few. Anyway, I would personally say 'nah' mainly because I have been playing tf2 pretty much from it's release date, so I'm kinda used to the characters the way they are.

Team Fortress 2 is a celebration of manliness; I'd say it's a central theme of the game.

The whole female class thing comes up a lot, and I'd be in favour of it, but for TF3, not for TF2. The reason being that there shouldn't be two distinct models for each class, which would be the only way it could be implemented. Two distinct models for each class would put greater strain on the memory limitations, reduce performance, but most importantly, make the battlefield more visually noisy and harder to distinguish classes, which is tantamount. In a new TF game, I think a few of the classes should definitely be female, but there should still only be one model per class. They're hardly going to take away all their hard work on any of the male models in tf2 in other words (and after growing to love all the characters it'd be sacrilege anyway).

Who cares? not every game needs female and male options, It wasn't the fact I couldn't be a male in Final Fantasy X-2 that made it a horrible experience.
Honestly I'm over people being all "oh why isnt there both sexes in this and that" it doesn't matter >_> just play the game.

No they hired professional voice actors for the mod, even valve had it on steam news. Quite amazing honestly.

I do think it's goofy there's only 1 female (the pyro) but adding male and female classes I think is not a good idea because the whole idea behind the characters isn't just having characters. They're means to identify a threat fast, that's why Brink gets a lot of flack for having no real way to tell till you've been filled full of lead.

Should they add it? No I don't think so because what they have works so very well and it's better for the gameplay (in my mind). However I do think they should have had girls from the get-go, could have been more interesting. You know other than the announcer and pyro.

I honestly don't care.

They invented things like pornography and vaginas to satiate your lustful need for women. Use them.

Well, the Pyro is already a female, so no; even if she were male, still no. And it's not that I don't want females in my TF2 (that I don't play anymore, bless it's soul), it's just that it's completely unnecessary.

It's certainly an idea, but you have to remember that if it were instituted, the pervs on DeviantArt would take advantage of the new plethora of breasts. Heck, the existence of that picture means they're already theorizing about it. Imagine what it'd be like if there actually were women in TF2?

That said, I endorse the idea.

Oh ho trust me the pervs on DA don't need to wait for Valve to make that call, they just add boobs to everything.

This is pointless. TF2 is just fine as is. I see no women whining about being included. My girlfriend, her friends, my friend's girlfriends all play the game and love it. They don't feel discriminated against. The nine characters are just what the artists wanted. This is just rather silly.

The characters are all well established and one of the tropes of TF2 is that it's all overly manly and satirical. Mann-Co. The soldier, Saxton Hale and the over to top violence are all very masculine things. Plus it's all run by the Administrator and Ms. Pauling who are obviously both female.
It's supposed to take after old style 60s spy flicks like Connery James Bond.
