I feel someone should stick up for Bulbasaur. were forgeting all those great moves: Vine whip, Leach seed, Solar beam. Ah those were the days.

And as far as these new generations go I bought pearl but only raise first gen pokemon.

I don't know why it's never an option, but in the pokemon worlds you have all these creatures running around with abilities to use elemental attacks capable of causing mass devestation. Why does no one carry a gun?

9mm = My starter. The rest of my sidebar inculdes a .44 and a Desert Eagle. They're weak against rock type, strong against...everything else.

Um...you can get a desert eagle in a .44 magnum, unless that is what you meant. Personally I would go with a Springfield Armory XD chambered in S&W .40, My S&W .500 with an 8 and 3/8 inch barrel, and my semi-auto Mossberg 930 shotgun. (It holds 7 12 gauge 3 inch rounds.)

I would use the SA XD as a backup for small pokemon trying to kill me, my 500 as a backup for big pokemon trying to kill me, and my shotgun as my main gun.

Although my Blastoise comes with GUNS BUILT INTO HIS BACK, so why would I need to use my guns?
Aren't Blastoises guns water cannons though? And for that matter, why don't they use them for fighting fires? It's like a pocket sized fire truck that never runs out of water.
Actually, in the Pokemon universe they DO use Blastoise for putting out fires. And as to the Blastoise's guns being "just water cannons"...yeah, they are just water cannons. But they are water cannons that can PUNCH THROUGH STEEL.(according to canonical Pokemon sources.)

If you train bulbasaur to level 3 without evolving he'll learn all the good moves faster.

Charmander, who becomes Charizard. Who honestly wouldn't want a fire breathing dragon?
Who wouldn't want a gigantic sea turtle with cannons on it's back, or a huge plant dinosaur?

Bulbasaur if you want to be in an advantage in the first 3 badges, rock, water, electric...come on... all three grass type have the advantage, and by badge 3 you have the opportunity to catch a fire pokemon to get the fourth...although i did see the game technically finished in 2 hours by using a charmander so that is a good one, but that guy knew everything, and i mean EVERYTHING in the game!

I always choose the fire type, so in your case, Charmander. When he learns flamethrower, slash, fly, and fire blast... There is an enemy, whip out your Charizard pokeball, there WAS an enemy.

Charmander does make the beginning of the game tougher though, but I always train to level 20 in the first patch of grass, so I rarely have any problems (ya I know I'm a freak).

Cyndiquil is THE choice to make in the 2nd gen though, because when he becomes Typhlosion, he can learn Thunderpunch, which really helps on the Champion's pokemon, as well as your rival's Feralligatyr (don't know how to spell that), as well as any pesky water pokemon you may come across on your journey to becoming a pokemon master.

I love Bulbasaur, but grass/poison has far too many weaknesses in PvP. And, hell, Squirtle evolves to Blastoise, what's not to love?

The games do need more viable non-starter Fire types, though.

cause he sucked against onyx and starmie and about 80 percent of the gyms. though charizard is cool
Blastoise owns the other starters once he learns ice beam and surf. although charizard might be faster, blastoise can take the hits and deliver them harder. Venusaur gets creamed with one ice attack, and guess what type can learn ice moves for a counter attack....water!!!

Charmander...

I'd always skip the Cerulean gym and head straight for Vermilion; Defeat every trainer on the boat and evolve my Charmeleon to Charizard. Then I'd head back to Cerulean and spam wing attack on Misty's Poke'mon....

I did this because he was my only Poke'mon.... too lazy to catch anything...
