Bulbasaur, Cyndaquil, Torchic, and Piplup. Powder attacks are super useful, Cyndaquil becomes badass, Torchic is cute and becomes badass, and Piplup is friggin' adorable. Too bad none of the Pokemon that generation look very good after they evolve, except possibly Turtwig (but not by much)

Squirtle, because late game you stomp everything and nothing really stands in your way with that beast.

Squirtle, although I disagree with your opinions about the other generations not existing.

Some of my favorites are from those later generations...

I would say that squirtle is by far the best as far as ease is concerned. I've never liked grass pokemon, despite bulbasaurs initial advantages i find that he can't keep up as the game progresses. Charmander can be an amazing asset to have later on in the game as a charizard but struggles like no other during the early stages of the game.

I always like whichever starters make the game the hardest. So it goes, Charmander, Chikorita and Torchic for me.
I used torchic in ruby and found that it was by no means difficult. As it evolves it becomes partly fighting which enhances it's effectiveness significantly.

Cyndaquil... Because you cannot deny that an adorable flaming hedgehog that evolves into an adorable, badass badger that can turn itself into a rolling fireball is completely epic. Also, because Gen 2 is completely better than Gen 1 in almost every aspect.
What did I just say about Gen 2? There was no Gen 2.

Move along, Sir.
I disagree, and maintain that there was indeed a second Generation.
Wikipedia seems to read otherwise, my friend.

I believe my link holds more water than your obviously doctored png file.

I win, and am done arguing.

I agree... by the first Gym, my Torchic had always already evolved into a Combusken, so Roxanne was no difficulty.

The Escapist? Pshh, probably just some tabloid site. I wouldn't even give their news the time of day! ;P

Yeah, I'm going to replay Red soon, and when I do I'll pick Charmander. Blastoise and Zapdos together ratchet the difficulty down to about "Peggle" level.

Squirtle, Feraligatr, Mudkip and Torterra.

The last one is a C-C-Combo Breaker, I know, but it's true. Torterra kicked ass, Empoleon was by far the worst.

And I'm a sucker for Water types...

Well, i'm one of the few who has a brother with a Gameboy and game, therefore I'm able to get all three starters before I get to fight Brock.
But, if I didn't have this advantage, I would have to choose charmander as it provides the greatest challenge fighting the first two gym leaders.

Charmander, who becomes Charizard. Who honestly wouldn't want a fire breathing dragon?
i dunno maybe a giant turtle with cannons on his freeking back
Took the words right out of my mouth.

Also, little known facts about Blastoise;

He can make the cannons come out anywhere.

When using skullbash, he is literally a rocket-propelled shell.

Also, the stream of water is able to cut through thick steel (or concrete, depending who you talk to), and is accurate to 160m.

It also has the best special defense of any starter from any generation.

And it kicks Charizard's ass.

Bulbasaur because he pretty much owns any pokemon you meet in the start.

He kill stone pokemon with SHARP LEAVES! Giving them a measly paper cut. :D Oh yea and whips them too.
