Poll: The CIA

Personally I think that the CIA are the most hopeless Intelligence agency, from my experience of being a sniper in 3rd battalion(which is a Parachute Regiment) using CIA intel is so useless that intel provided by my friend in the royal army who's a supply officer has more bloody reliable intel properly not on the Taliban but rather on what time not to go on patrol.

But still the CIA has very bad track recored when it comes to actually doing something useful e.g. the CIA tried and failed to kill Fidel Castro 638 times hell they even tried invading Cuba with mercenary force and obviously failed.

I am not the CIA is bad just that it needs review and reform itself

Well if could be worse, they could be like our very own British MI5 which one of there agents left a laptop full of intellegence on a public train.
If they do that, then they have to reform.

There is so much mystery and intrigue surrounding them... it would be nice to think they're the glue which holds America together and keeps them safe at night but this is most likely not the case. Shame, because it does make for good fiction (ie X Files).

actually the CIA is good for all the other types of intelligence gathering there are, but the FSB is king of all things relating to human intelligence gathering. i know this because of my learnings

During the confict between NATO and Serbia over Kosovo in the late nineties, the USA bombed the Chinese Embassy believing it to be a military command and communication structure. They had been told this was the case by the CIA, the only problem is the CIA were seven fucking years out of date with that information. That was the last time they actually had any info from inside Belgrade, all information subsequent was based on satelite imaging.

The embassy was clearly marked as the Chinese embassy on a tourist map of Belgrade, had anyone from the CIA just bothered to luck at even publicly available information in the regime of Milosevic then pissing off the Chinese could have been avoided.

CIA couldn't find their own arses with both hands.

Score one for military intelligence... I mean, that's just impressive. Perhaps there's a couple of branches in each secret service - the kick-ass top secret branch and the balls-it-up bunch of dumb fucks that get into the news. That's the way I'd do it - if I actually thought I needed the dumb fucks anyway. Then again, that is probably all a delusion. (Or am I on to them >.>)

A cousin of my mum used to work in MI5 - he's in the home office now- but he said that there were big problems in its running. Wouldn't tell me anymore though.

Also: My surname is MacMillan too. We're probably very distantly related.

Some might say that the CIA needs reform, but I think that it needs to be dismantled and replaced. There is no place in the world for an organization that has a tendency to overthrow democratically elected governments because they happen to reflect their general populace's unfavorable view of the United States. There is no place in the world for the organization that armed and trained a large part of the guerilla forces currently attacking and killing Western forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.

CIA? Didn't know their intel sucked, but I knew that they suck. As does every such agency. I'm for complete transparency in government, and against exemptions from the law. Agencies like this seem kind of counter-intuitive in countries that consider themselves free.

Well, at least they were so strict that perhaps a kindly teacher in a primary school somewhere would feel they perhaps would never use that punishment on a pupil. It's simply too harsh.
