I have seen this allot in the forums I have made an account to. Do most people create a user for a forum with a certain topic in mind first. Example, Say someone wants to create a movie thread, however they do not have a user on any forum, so they create one and the first thing they do is post that movie thread.

Was that your case when you created an account on the Escapist?

Not at all.
I made an account simply because I felt like it at the time.
It was a long time before I made my first thread.

I joined to join in on an discussion, I knew that making a thread would be stupid without knowing the community.

No... I think that happens more on tech support forums and alike.

Here I just was watching ZP and was like hey these forums are pretty good!

I joined the escapist to join the community, Really is interesting seeing what people are angry at.

I didn't. I joined because I wanted to play Genre Wars.

Seriously.

This is most likely the case with a large contingent of users, including myself.

No, I joined to contribute to a discussion and decided to stay. I've only bothered making about three different threads since I joined.
These forums are much better than some of the others I've seen...

Nope, I saw an interesting thread and started posting there. I barely make any threads, I'm not good at it.

For me its generally when I feel obliged to post, actually I often get torn apart by IMDB as there are some ridiculously stupid comments out there I can't comment on because I can't register.

I saw a discussion about the infinite on that bar thing which is one the right of the ZP episodes, and I was so intrigued that I joined up and commented on it. And here I am now.
