My biggest fear with the Deadpool movie is that
This guy:

Is supposed to act as:

at roughly the same time.
I hope there is no conflict.
they should use a random dude for the body, and the guy who voiced him in Ultimate Alliance play the voice!

Well that guy is gonna be Deadpool. Again. For the first time. Since that other guy wasn't Deadpool. And that movie didn't happen.

I like this voice. And attitude.

The forth wall is impornant for most games. Unless it's a game that's ment to be funny, then maybe they can make a few jokes where they break the fourth wall, but not much more.

MGS breaks the fourth wall quite a few times, mentioning things like "Start Button" and "Select button".

Hell, in MGS4 there is a fight against Psyco mantis, which you win by having a controller without vibration and no memory card. (MGS 4 was made before the Dual Shock 3 controllers.).

In MGS 1 you also met psyco mantis. He would turn the screen black at times, and there was a cutscene where he would read out the games you've got saved on your memory card ("So...you really enjoy playing Crash Bandicoot, huh?!). He also proves his amazing psycotic powers by making your Dual Shock 1 Controller, vibrate.

i liked the fourth wall breaking joke at the end of AC2 felt a lil sorry for ezio though.

The MGS series has always been good at breaking the fourth wall and not making it jarring.

The fourth wall is there for a reason. Writer's really need to stop breaking it at the drop of a hat.

And I don't care for Deadpool. If the entire gimmick of a character is that he is allowed to break the fourth wall, at least don't base EVERY joke around that.

I haven't seen it yet, but I think it would be an interesting experiment to see a Brechtian video game. Uh-huh. Fancy script analysis terms awaaaay!!

It's pretty self-explanatory that the more immersive a game is, the better...but that does certainly not mean that extra peripherals are going to work better at achieving this.

Having said that, motion-sensing devices are clearly what the games industry thinks is the future. That's their idea of breaking the fourth wall, whatever gamers may think.

I'd use the analogy of cinema. You can have a bad Blu-ray film that has none of the power of watching a great film on VHS (much as I despise VHS).

Immersion is effect, not cause. You can't create it without craft.

Max Payne broke the 4th wall quite humorously in a drug fueled nightmare using a piece of paper. Twice.

The fourth wall is quite important in a game because it is very difficult to pull off a good fourth-wall breaking joke. Notable exceptions are No More Heroes and Legend of Disgaea.
and the fallout games. and Deadpool
Fallout breaks the 4th wall? Man I have to play those games...

And as for Deadpool, he is my one regret for not reading comics when I was younger. I hope his upcoming movie does him justice (or at least makes us forget the Ryan Reynolds role in X-Men: Wolfy there).
Oh, yeah...the first fallouts have a lot of 4th wall breaking ness, like when a follower gets really injured-I think his name was Cassidy- he'll say "You know, I can't reload a past save like you can..." And Deadpool sucked in XO:W, pfff...can't make jokes, shoots optic blasts, has retractable katanas...nothing like the comics
Heh heh heh. But the damage was done. That was my first taste of Deadpool and I am actually guilty of enjoying it. But after making the mistake of telling people that, they quickly remedied the situation by shoving my face into the comics (I guess that means the mistake was a blessing in disguise). Once again I hope that the Deadpool movie at the very least erases much of the damage by XO:Hugh Jackman.
Well, they were right to do that, because you haven't experienced "the Merc with the Mouth" until you read them.
P.S. you can also unlock a whole audio clip of breaking the 4th wall by beating Marvel Ultimate alliance 2

EDIT 3: COMPLETELY UNRELATED!!!: http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f122/VanVelding/Deadpool/deadpool-peanut-love.jpg
Alas, I have not the time, money, and especially not the interest to start reading the Deadpool comic. I have no doubt that it would be worth it, but it's waaay too much of an undertaking for someone who hates both comics and large series'. Trust me, I treat large TV shows and movie series' the same way. The Deadpool comic doesn't have a chance with me.

*That's* why I really hope the new movie is good. Because I'll never read the comics; the movies will be the only way I get to experience him and his humour.

Dependson what context it is in. I do not want the mentor figure in a game telling me to "press left-mouse to fire" or to "always use save points" because that just seems stupid, but video game fourth walls can often be quite hilarious to break down when done correctly.

Bioshock offers an interesting meta-fictional version. The player is not directly addressed or acknowledged, but the player and the character kind of get mixed together:
(you're both doing what you are told - but the character is only doing it because of a code phrase, whereas the player is only doing it because they conventionally rely on the guide character to lead you through the game.

Considering the active control a player has over a videogame's progress and story, and the degree of immersion the player takes on to take on the role of a game character, I'm suprised this relationship doesn't get addressed more.
