The basic gist I seem to be getting is your cafe needs to have something people simply can't get at home. Retro games consoles are the way to go. Try and push the whole "retro experience" thing. That plus birthday party support ect and you've got a winning business opportunity.

Great Idea in Theory, but ive been to a cyber Cafe where people were playing counterstrike and wanted to Punch everyone of those kids in there stupid fucking mouths. The Dumb shit people yell outloud while playing video games can just be too much to bare. If restrictions were put on that I think this would be a great idea.

TBH i think you would have betetr chances if you had PC's as well as consoles.

In Denmark almost every net-cafe has gaming computers, and are used for gaming (never seen any1 enter one just to check their mail and surf the web) But i've never seen a console-cafë, so either you're original, or people has just thought of it, tried it and failed.

So get a few rows of gaming pc's and some couch sections with consoles.

Remember that consoles take up MUCH more space per player than pc's so you'd have to get a big place (Assuming every consoel gets at least a 3 man couch and a decent tv (full HD for ps3/xb360)

Also, when people go to net-cafés to play PC, it's usually cause they wanna play togeather, and don't really feel like/is able to drag all their PC's to one of them and have a LAN party.
But most gamers already have a console, or know someone who has, so they can just go to his place to play, unless they wanna play multiplayer online with each other.
Point is, only a few PC games has hot-seat multiplayer, but many console games already has split screen or something like that, so theres less "need" to go somewhere and pay for it if you wanna play togeather.

You could also hire some hot chick to work top-less at the place durring the late hours. That should draw costumers.

I wish you the best of luck if you decide to go through with it.

Sounds interesting. When do you think it will be open by, and where (more specifically) will it be located?

Also before you all get excited it's in NJ.
I'm in NY, so I'll probably stop by next time I'm down there (if it does turn out as it sounds).

As a question: How would you protect yourself from those nasty crumbs and drinks ruining the controllers? You could force a person to replace it but they could just walk out of the store without telling you and it will have to go out of your pocket...

i think retro and multiplayer games, such as individual super mario brothers ect. stations, then full couch street fighter/guitar hero/ect. multiplayer games for a few people. also, have tournaments from time to time where you can win free gametime. finally, expand to Colorado plz?

*edit*
you could rent rooms for parties, clan meetings, ect.
and they would be decked out with 8-bit gaming decor, a large table, two TVs and couches w/ matching systems, a mini fridge and WiFi

Wait, where in NJ? Cause I live there...

Sounds like it could be good, depending on the area.

I actually have something like this in my town. It has an X-Box 360 and Playstation 3. They also serve coffee and other sweets.

Good idea, though I wouldn't go to something like that.

how would i save my game? would i save it to the hard drive?
you would either pay to save your game on our hard drive its about 5 dollars a month to keep it as long as you want and we assure it is never lost or we compensate.

You can also bring your own memory cards or hard drives and plug them in for free.

I think it's a good idea. A friend and I thought about opening a gaming center several years ago, but we had no way of raising that much capital and just left it at that. There are one or two places in town like that, but alas they're too far for me to go there. If they were closer to campus I might have gone there from time to time. One closed, one is still around I think.

The places I have been usually have a number of options: you can pay by the hour, you can pay for a full day (like $40 IIRC), and there's annual memberships for several hundred dollars. Some of them also diversify a bit, and use some of their extra bandwidth to rent things like dedicated game servers and Ventrilo/RW/TS servers.

The hardest thing (well, aside from survival), as has been mentioned, is getting a system for regulating time on the machines, especially consoles. Since multiple people can be on a console, I think you will always need to have someone physically there to boot people out when their time is up. Easiest thing to do would be to issue a little card to people with the amount of time alotted to them on it, then have them swipe it to gain access to computers and to get their time allotment for consoles at the console admin desk.

As far as technical things are concerned, be as power efficient as you can, and make sure you've got beefy circuit breakers and air conditioning...

I don't know... You'd get the people that don't usually play games. Meaning that you wouldn't really get committed customers.

I don't get why people would go there instead of staying home. Unless of course you can't get online at home. Might be a good way to socialize with gamers though
