Poll: The Internet is NOT for Porn

Trying to say how much of the internet is porn is equatable to trying to say how much of the universe is hydrogen. Yes, there's a *huge* amount of it, but the thing that it's part of (the internet/space) is so vast that it's practically a moot point.

That said, I wouldn't trust that statistic even if it seems about right to me. Never trust a study unless you know every single little detail.

I don't remember where it was from, but I heard from another study that 30% of the internet was made up of pornography of some sort. And I believe that that is a reasonable number. Even if it isn't proven, I still plan to use 30% as a rule of thumb.

It definately is not even close to as high as 30%. According to Alexa the first Porn site comes in at 42nd place for internet traffic and only 10 porn sites come in the top 1000.

But I'm not talking about traffic. I agree, if they had been talking about internet traffic, I'd believe 1.1%. However, I'm talking about volume of porn sites. For me, it means that for every 100 pages, or every 100 images, on the internet 30 of them are porn.

I've never looked up porn. One of the few rules I have about masturbation is don't use real people(this has also extended to most characters in fiction, although that one I've broken a few times). It just seems... weird... disrespectful. I get along fine with my imagination and memories from when I accidentally come across stuff.

As to why I dont use porn, well, I don't want that on my search history. It seems embarassing, and at least I can justify most of the stranger stuff I've read(Jack, the webcomic, for example).

I'll also add that many, many things can be used as porn, or accidentally qualify as it.

It's difficult to imagine the number of URLs being uploaded every minute on the internet, and the many already there, let alone gather an estimate and paste it on a pie chart.
And I didn't even mention categorizing.
Not to long ago, I read statistics which show that about 12% of websites on the internet are pornographic.

Hell, porn and filesharing is what officials say suck about hte internet, but they're the only things that represent the true freedom the internet provides humanity.
