Seriously, have you ever seen some and thought "Wow. This is some tasty porn"?

Nah, perfunctory at best. When they can put porn up in the Tate, then I'll change it. :)
For loose definitions of "tasty", yes. I think you just need to find the right stuff.

What, statistically? The internet is for whatever you want to use it for. I'm sure it's more than 1.1%, though.
'Baby, I can be whatever you want me to be', says the internet.

I'm sure that a market analyst, a professor, a pervert and an MMORPG player [though these latter two often overlap] would have widely differing views.

I don't really know. I normally just frequent the same sites that aren't porn related.

I've never looked up porn. One of the few rules I have about masturbation is don't use real people(this has also extended to most characters in fiction, although that one I've broken a few times). It just seems... weird... disrespectful. I get along fine with my imagination and memories from when I accidentally come across stuff.

As to why I dont use porn, well, I don't want that on my search history. It seems embarassing, and at least I can justify most of the stranger stuff I've read(Jack, the webcomic, for example).

I'll also add that many, many things can be used as porn, or accidentally qualify as it.

It's difficult to imagine the number of URLs being uploaded every minute on the internet, and the many already there, let alone gather an estimate and paste it on a pie chart.
And I didn't even mention categorizing.
Not to long ago, I read statistics which show that about 12% of websites on the internet are pornographic.

Taking all into consideration, I greatly question the reliablity of this information, but, the fact remains that the internet contains MUCH pornography.

And thanks for your first post here :)

But some of those stats...yeah...not really reliable.

I can't make an honest guesstimate because I honestly have no idea. I only know that I don't use the internet for porn.

Once again, my post won't show until I post again.

I don't know why this keeps happening.

i also remember hearing something like %87 of all web addresses administered were pornographic sites

There's a lot of porn out there, but the internet is pretty fucking big, so I'm sure it doesn't count for all the content on the web. A good-sized chunk, but not all of it.

it's actually for idiots.

Look at Youtube and its glut of amateur and garbage videos. Look at all the failed webcomics, fan fics, all the screaming fangirls and boys. All the "news" all the hype. All the gossip.

I hate humanity so much for ruining the internet for everyone. Because many have.

Hell, porn and filesharing is what officials say suck about hte internet, but they're the only things that represent the true freedom the internet provides humanity. It was considered tha tthe internet itself should get a nobel peace prize. I say, FUCK YEAH! Better than waste of life Twitter which yet again is an example ofthe humanity's failing sin dealing maturely with the power of the internet.

Not much of it, I imagine. The 1.1% wouldn't surprise me. For instance, if you can search for porn in Google (I don't use safe search - nor to I watch porn) most words that people will search sure wont show up with porn in all 100,000 odd pages.
thats because google deletes all words like "porn, fucking, boobs, hentai, loli" and so on.
also awesome avatar.
I highly doubt that, based on the fact that I searched the word "hentai" to find out what it is about 6 or 7 months ago, and many - MANY results came up with porno related words in the site addresses.

Oh and thanks! It's from "Not the 9 O'clock news"
I meant in the suggested searches so that kids cant accidentaly find it.
Yeah, I agree with that.

All of it is for porn. You would be surprised at how innocent looking some fetish material can be.

Now before I start:

Yes, yes, we all know that particular view Trekkie Monster, but according to the most delicious Stephen Fry on QI, a survey was done during the Bush administration for the ACLA that declared that less than 1.1% of the Internet [http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2006/nov/23/guardianweeklytechnologysection2] was "gentlemen's special interests" as Jimmy Carr so delightfully put it.

So, purely on a Escapist view point, how much of the Internet is for Porn?

(Obvious Rule Quote: No mucky pictures, video or the like please. Ta :))
But i like putting naughty video's :(

I IMMEDIATLY thought of that video when looking at the title. Ninja'd before I even started...

Anyway. Even if that 1.1% measurement is true, that's still A bloody lot of wankers using their computers to share that interest. The internet CAN be for "porn" (and it certainly is prominent, if you take the ridiculously-large amount of distributers and various files frequently used in viruses) to whoever uses it, though it shouldn't be completly labelled by it.

As any other magical wiring of a super-crazy information station would have to believe, it can be used and defined for many many other things.

Why are videos like that made however? It's a funny subject.

Edit: Oops, missed question. I can't speak for the Escapist completly, though publiclly it's something I tend to stay away from.
