We ran out of grit. Surely they would have had the sense to have a greater stockpile of grit and salt, call in the army to help instead of making them sit around on their butts when they had offered to help and oh yeah dont wait two weeks to friggin do something when people need help now

Oh right, you are the "opposition" and the reason why some people can't shut the hell up about "independence" and "oppression" and "the IRA". oh ffs, give it a rest, no one cares about this shit anymore. It's reduced to a bunch of whiny children stuck in a tree house complaining about things that have long been settled. You all got your pound of flesh, so don't start your IRA nationalish shit. It was disbanded or rather "had their arses handed over to them" for a reason and that was for peace and unity. Don't stir old shit up because of bruised egos.
Wow. You seem bitter.

Its not bitter its common sense. If you are in the republic enjoy the free state and leave matters be. If not go to the UK and fight your petty war. Also having family killed by a war does make you a bit bitter.

See you on the battlefields![/quote]There won't be a battlefield for several reasons. The Irish never won anything against the english and thats a start.

I've had family killed by British soldiers.

Quite a lot actually, come to think of it.

So I suppose I have a reason to be bitter too.
Then why is it that one side is minding our own business and the other wants a gurilla war?. Hypocrisy much?

Are you Irish or are you English? I'm just wondering.
Typica, always a side with you lot isn't it. A true nationalist. Does it matter how I answer you hate the free state as much as the english.

Erm, it does actually. I just need to know which angle you're coming at this from, so I don't make a faux pas.
It's a bit too late for that since you so mentioned your hate for the British control of a land that is not even legally yours.

What really annoys me about the whole thing is that the guy who was supposed to be in charge of the clear up is sunbathing in Spain. So the retard who was in charge decided to close the schools until Thursday, but like every politician has gone back on his word and now I'm too fucking tired from staying up till 5 to do anything in school /rant
Erm... Forgive me for playing devil's advocate, but isn't that your fault for staying up till 5?

This is actually the most talked about thing here in Dublin during our frezze spell

Which by the way is now effectivley over thanks to the rain(which seems to ruin everything here)

This slapstick man who looks a little like Ed Byrne has become the headline of the our national broadcaster

Anyway this thread is basically only for the Irish so everyone one else can go away.
Unless you want to make fun of our Politicans and pavements
Your right lets blame the weather on the government, come on get a little serious there are nough real problems with the government without blaming them for acts of nature. Nobody expected the cold snap to be this bad, every European country not used to it is suffering. What did you want the minister to do tell the snow to fuck off? If we had of had the kind of reserves for this kind of weather we would have been critising them for wasting money preping for such and unlikely event. Also you say your in school you do realise the more days your school is closed the more of your summer holidays is lost, also the problem isnt with the kids not being in school its the parents being forced to talk so much time off to mind them thats the problem.

He's the only one I can respect out of the lot of them.

Labour aren't too bad at the best of times, the Greens are very smug, Fianna Fail and Fine Gael are interchangeable and corrupt, and Sinn Fein are maniacs.

I'd still prefer Sinn Fein over all of them though.
Furburt I'm as green as they come I piss beer and bleed green, but Sinn Fein getting any kind of power at all in this country is up there with worst case scenarios for me. I understand why they have their policies , its just their policies are fucking bonkers. I know FF havent handled the whole recesson thing too well but look around the globe? Who the hell did? Shitstorms of the magnitude that came were unpredictable and Ireland is the worlds most open economy, which did us wonders when trade was flowing but now hurts us. Nobody complained when money poured into the country , global recession hits and everybody wants somebody to blame. Not saying there wasnt serious blame to be handed out,I just try and keep everything in perspective.

I feel I should interject.

While the land may not legally be ours, it was in the first place and the English invaded. While most of this was resolved by the talks between Collins and the British fellows it still stands that it was ours before, was it legal to take it in the first place. Interesting that Britain has modern legal practices to fall back on when there wasn't any when they invaded.

While I don't agree with Furburt's methods it is part of the Island and it would be nice to all be united.

Don't take this the wrong way, I like the British, I wish I was Anglo-Irish sometimes.

I'm not a big fan of armed rebellion to be honest. That's what got us into this mess in the first place... But I would like to point out that the Irish did manage to win quite a few battle against the English over the years. Just not since the mid 1800s. There were a LOT of battlefields. Pretty much every town and village in Ireland has had a battle fought either in it or nearby.

And if you don't understand the resentment of many Irish people towards British ownership of the Six Counties then you should probably quit arguing now. Anyway, I've said my piece in as nice as way as I could. I'm done.

This I can agree with. Not with Furball's Rambo ways with dealing with the gun.

I complained when the money was flooding into the country!!! Anyone who was paying attention could see that the housing market had to collapse. If the global recession hadn't happened we'd've had a miniature one ourselves. Can't keep building houses when there aren't enough people in the country to live in them... So the money flooding in was a bad thing, cos all it was doing was fuelling a building industry on its way towards a collapse. If they'd been using it for something decent then I wouldn't've complained. But you ask anyone I went to school with and they'll tell you I saw this coming a mile off. Also, it did come to light after the recession that we're one of Europe's main tax havens and a centre for dodgy dealings, much like the Canary Islands. Go us!

As for being green, I voted for them in the last general election and feel massively let down. Not cos they went into government with Fianna Fáil, they didn't really have much of a shot at power otherwise, but because they've agreed with everything Fianna Fáil have said and done even when it goes against everything they stand for. I'll still support the Green Party as a whole, just not those in the party who are TDs.

As for Sinn Fein getting power, yes, it wouldn't be good for the country, and I'd certainly never give them my vote. Their policies are absolutely mental. But show me one party that's good for the country and I'll give you a medal. I maybe, just maybe will vote for Fine Gael next time round, but only if George Lee is the Minister for Finance.

And as for your point about Fianna Fáil handling the recession about as well as every other government I'll give you one acronym. NAMA. Nuff said.

Also, I'm not trying to start a fight with you. Your points were good and well made, just needed a little more revision. :)
