I don't really care. Bets the limitless bias against Middle-Eastern people and Russians that plagues AAA games today.
I'm really hoping you're being sarcastic. You know, with the whole Industrial Revolution thing and everything...dfphetteplace said:The British are some of history's worst tyrants. good gosh thats the best gaming idea i have ever heard! i want this!Kyrian007 said:I remember an idea I had during the Jack Thompson GTA:SA "murder simulator" controversy. We should kickstarter up a dev company who timed releases of games with other AAA titles with the specific purpose of OUT-controversy-ing the game we all REALLY want. Example: just before the release of GTA:SA, release an ACTUAL murder simulator. A sandbox populated by a myriad of NPC's. The player selects his target. Toys with them (bumping into them, calling then hanging up, sending cryptic letters and messages, whatever.) And then the break-in and murder (or kidnapping and pit-basement-"lotion on its skin" torture... then murder.) Then the post-murder toying with investigators while selecting a new target. Points would be given for creating a steady "theme" with the murders, resources spent by law enforcement finding you, panic among the populace, media coverage, and so on.
Good god, I just had the thought "I kind of want to play that game..." Perhaps there's something wrong with me? D'oh well.
See, with that game on shelves no one would have picked on GTA. Now for AC3... just have to OUT-"fuck yeah" the AC3 trailers and problem solved.
Not to mention the founders of principles that America would eventually fight for. John Locke yadayada.Da Orky Man said:I'm really hoping you're being sarcastic. Hell, we're taought next to nothing about the empire. I mean, a bit of it came in while doing the First World War, but we went through a full module of Industrial Revolution with nary a word.Lethos said:Not to mention the founders of principles that America would eventually fight for. ITT: A lot of people need to educate themselves on the British education system. Contrary to seemingly popular belief, we're not taught that the empire was great.
They did that once before. We got the Great Depression and (arguably) WWII. Yeeeaaaahh...DRes82 said:Can you imagine a world where the US just decided to withdrawal from any involvement outside its borders? It would be special. I'll leave you all to ponder that.
Not at all. This sounds fucking awesome.Kyrian007 said:A sandbox populated by a myriad of NPC's. The player selects his target. A-MEN!erttheking said:Between Tomb Raider, Mass Effect and this, I really don't care anymore. I got behind the Mass Effect movement, but I am just so sick of controversy in every single game. "Oh this game is xenophobic." "Oh, this game is racist." "Oh this game is sexist" I JUST WANT TO PLAY MY FREAKING VIDEO GAME! God, I am just sick of all the fucking drama.
Not even a little. I'm not saying other people are innocent at all, but I have no sympathy for an empire that paved their way with the blood of indigenous people.Da Orky Man said:I'm really hoping you're being sarcastic. I wouldn't be so sick of these sorts of things if the people complaining didn't phrase things in ways that imply that anyone who disagrees with them is some sort of "-ist". I recently came across someone on Kotaku who literally said that they held their position because it was a just one, and anyone who disagreed with them supported injustice. Considering how messy even basic social issues tend to be, I tend to be leery of anyone proclaiming absolute positions.erttheking said:Between Tomb Raider, Mass Effect and this, I really don't care anymore. Sith deal in absolutes this is a good thing to be cautious of.JonnWood said:I wouldn't be so sick of these sorts of things if the people complaining didn't phrase things in ways that imply that anyone who disagrees with them is some sort of "-ist". And what about, like every other empire that has ever existed? The Spanish Empire, Roman Empire, Mongol Empire? Sure, the British Empire did some rather awful things, but next to almost any other, it was relatively peaceful, not to mention getting the world out of the late middle ages into the early modern era.dfphetteplace said:Not even a little. Cappa: Trust me.
That's the marketing for you. Maybe the game will be different. If the marketing is any different, the core consumers would "get offended" because Americans are getting slaughtered.Daystar Clarion said:It's not so much that I dislike the British being painted in bad light, more like I dislike just how 'America fuck yeah!' the trailers have been so far.
A french developer... You know there are jokes about France vs. Britain still floating around right? Then there is the fact that France backed the revolution. This could turn into a biased situation very easily. But then again, it probably wont.GiglameshSoulEater said:Of course they will vilify the British. To be honest, it annoys me how the Americans describe British rule as something that was 'Slavery and tyranny'. I certainly expect an American developer to be making an American-centric game. Hell, they'll probably have the rebels as saints while the Redcoats burn children in churches, etc.
Edit: Its a french developer? Ye gods. I did not know that. I acknowledge my mistake, then, but as the primary market is American I still think vilification of the British is doubtlessly going to happen
