It's pretty bad but I wouldn't say it's a second Depression... It's kind of affected me, this thing I was going to buy from Taiwan is going to cost me a lot more. But otherwise no.

Yes, there's been quite a few, the only reason this one is being so hyped up is that we've had such a long period of growth that people are expecting it to turn around and bite us in the ass. Do I think It can be avoided? Not entirely, but we can do a lot to improve conditions during it, keep it short and maybe limit the chances of more.

Edit: Me and my family are fucked. We'll get through but tough times are ahead. Thank god for libraries.

You guys are the lucky ones, Those in the US are getting hit really hard. An unimaginable number of jobs have been lost and people are even starting to fake their own death to collect insurance money. That's pretty bad. Not to mention in my area (and I bet that the state "loves" this) people are even pulling their kids out of school because no one can afford it. For an average person living with a family of 4 and no state assistance, living paycheck to paycheck is getting harder and harder. At this point, it stands to be called a recession. We're headed toward the second major US depression, that's what I was aiming for.

The UK isn't far off, negative news constantly and the archetict of our destruction Gordon Brown, seemed to think he could fix it (fair play, he caused it), but seemingly has failed. This could turn into a Global Great Depression. The Euro seems fairly alright at the moment, but France and Germany are slowing, and they form the crux of Euroland.
Gordon Brown, the architect of the current reccession? Sir, you clearly have no understanding of economics. Mr Brown, stolid, ill-tempered and ugly as he may appear, is, by all measures, an economic genius, and has successfully masterminded the longest period of economic growth Britain has had since the second world war.

Your argument that he caused the current crisis is rather like me saying: "Well, FDR was the President of the USA in 1939 so he caused the second world war." As any informed person knows, this began with the financial collapse of the American banking system, created by irresponsible fiscal policies by the American government and financial instiutions (commerical banks, mortgages etc). This naturally spread to Jolly old England, as banks are in essence interdependant instituions, and is having a severe effect on our economy. However, unlike in America, Mr Brown has acted to preserve our financial institutions from ruin (and thus the public at large) by spending public money, and beginning the process of staving off the worst effects of this.

Reccessions always happen. They are an inevitable product of a captialist society, and to place the blame upon a man who has done his utmost to control the damage inflicted by it is both ingracious and stupid. To expect the state to have prevented this calamity is rather like expecting them to prevent a tidal wave or a hurricane- impossible. What should be expected, and what is being done, is that the government act expediently and correctly to minimse the effects of the deppression upon the nation. In this, Mr Brown has acted well.

Despite the man's utter lack of charisma, he wins kudos for this.

It's called Ragnarok, it's Norse mythology. Not all men die, one man and woman survive, while hiding in the Yggdrasil, the Tree of Life.

If you want to pretend to know something, better make sure you do know it.

Things sure are fucked for the economy, thanks to the economical crisis i cant get a job cause no company can afford to hire more people, that and there have been over 100.000 cuts here in under 2 months, meaning the job market is totally fucked as well.

So thanks to the stockmarket crashing and the economy dying i am pretty much forced to just walk around and wait it out, which is kinda hard seeing as i have no money left :/

So yes, it has affected me in a very big way.

Well no-one knows yet obviously. I think it's a serious possibility. If government's intervention actually works it may pull us out of a recession.

However, I view this recession as more of a correction. We had growth based on bad borrowing. The economy is just responding to realisation that the banks took too much risk and it all collapsed in on them. All of that false value by selling dubious debt as triple A rated investments is now showing its true nature.

Of course this is compounded by the fact that recession begets further recession.

I don't see bread lines or mass famines happening any time soon in modernized nations. I've never understood how a depression can happen when the civilians are poor but politicians are doing alright.

Tree of Life, Tree of World. It actually just means "Odin's house".

You sure they have hidden in a cave? I just checked they seeked rescue in the "wood Hoddmímis holt". To quote from wiki:

Rudolf Simek theorizes that the survival of Líf' and Lífþrasir is "a case of reduplication of the anthropogeny, understandable from the cyclic nature of the Eddic escatology." Simek says that Hoddmímis holt "should not be understood literally as a wood or even a forest in which the two keep themselves hidden, but rather as an alternative name for the world-tree Yggdrasill.
So in theory, it might be Yggdrasil after all.

If ANYONE here thinks this current Recession is anything close to the Depression after the crash of 1929 you have some history books to go read. Seriously now, the Depression was beyond anything anyone has seen for over 80 years. Just ask any old person who lived through that shit. People were literally starving in the US. In 1933 the US had an unemployment rate of 24.9%. That is unheard of these days. Right now the US is around 7.2% in 2009. You all really have no idea what a real depression is. We have never had another Depression since the crash of 1929.

Sure things are bad from our perspective. This is the worse our generations have had it. The rescission of the 1970's was pretty bad but most of us were either kids or not born yet. Things will get worse before they get better, but they will get better. We are not heading into another Depression like the one during the 30's.

Before or after the Depression of the 1930's? Before? I am sure some Depression hit some where, but not in modern times. After? No there has not.

Long as we dont have a repeat of the depression of the 18702-1890s (though China might if this thing lasts a long long time); im happy.

you know what got us out of the 1st one? A World War. However, its extremely unlikely that'll happen, with the UN and all. Besides, war (an unwinnable one at that) has had a hand in putting us in this situation to begin with.

Huh...I just realized that all of the choices in your are basically answering "yes," even when they say "no." Clever. While I believe this is A depression, it won't be nearly as bad as THE depression.
