I think its bad and it's tough, But I do not not think it is any where close to millions of homeless people and people hunting birds to cook for soup or eating dogs/cats to try and stay alive.

RAGNAROCK!*
*DoooooooM!
What kind of rock?

I don't have any problems. Maybe because I never buy more than I need.
Ragnarock is doomsday in the nordicmytology, its the day when all gods and men alike will die! so i guess its a pretty bloody rock! ^^
It's called Ragnarok, it's Norse mythology. Not all men die, one man and woman survive, while hiding in the Yggdrasil, the Tree of Life.

If you want to pretend to know something, better make sure you do know it.

Don't lecture me... I know very well about all that has to do about this theme. well... I didn't know the english word for "nordisk" but apart from that I know most of it ^^ I love this stuff, and they don't hide in Yggrdasil witch is the tree of the world not the tree of life, but they hide in a cave... and they have a cow with them! :p and Im sorry i wrote Ragnarok wrong, stupid mistake from my part!
Tree of Life, Tree of World. It actually just means "Odin's house".

You sure they have hidden in a cave? I just checked they seeked rescue in the "wood Hoddmímis holt". To quote from wiki:

Rudolf Simek theorizes that the survival of Líf' and Lífþrasir is "a case of reduplication of the anthropogeny, understandable from the cyclic nature of the Eddic escatology." Simek says that Hoddmímis holt "should not be understood literally as a wood or even a forest in which the two keep themselves hidden, but rather as an alternative name for the world-tree Yggdrasill.
So in theory, it might be Yggdrasil after all.
well, you learn as long as you live :D

It's going to affect me soon. My mother is getting laid off at the end of the year, and my father's business has less customers nowadays.

And time for the quote again :
"The Earth is degenerating today. Bribery and corruption abound. Children no longer obey their parents, every man wants to write a book, and it is evident that the end of the world is fast approaching." - Assyrian Tablet : 2800 BC

On a lighter note:
"Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia." - Charles Schultz

2nd depression? there's been a whole load more then just 2 major depressions
Before or after the Depression of the 1930's? Before? I am sure some Depression hit some where, but not in modern times. After? No there has not.
Long as we don't have a repeat of the depression of the 18702-1890s (though China might if this thing lasts a long long time); I'm happy.
I would not call that "modern times". That is why I did not list that one.

This, I can remember the 70's depression, the 80's house market drop, the 90's Black Wednesday...
All three of those were Recessions, not Depressions.

Huh...I just realized that all of the choices in your are basically answering "yes," even when they say "no." Clever. While I believe this is A depression, it won't be nearly as bad as THE depression.
I noticed that too. That is why I declined to vote in the poll.

Not affected at all here.

In fact, small family businesses are booming over here, and so are those that didn't get involved with all the hot air selling. You can't just increase the value of something. You can't say "Hmm, there's a rumor that we are doing better." and suddenly the value of the company goes up. It doesn't work that way.

Eh, okay. Rambling on.

Nope, not affected at all. I'm thinking of buying a new TV. Suggestions? :p

You should change that poll option from politics to economics.

Nokialand (Finland) is pretty well off and we need thousands of new cleaners and low-tier workers so feel free to come and do our dirty work.

Just wait 'till the West falls into a dark age, while China and the Middle East prosper...
Wait, that happened before, didn't it?

I dunno. But history doesn't repeat itself, it just has a bucket full of paralells.

Yet for some reason someone out there has enough money to develop a video game based on the Dragonball: Evolution movie.

Yes, we are in trouble.

My folks are well off because of their chosen professions, health care and carpentry. Hell, because of Ike my dad has work stretching into the next month. However; times are hard on us all, I'm a college student trying to get an education in a system that on average sends graduates out of school with $8,000 in debt. I can't find work either, whenever a job opens up there is always someone with more experience around to fill it.
I don't think it really matters who is to blame right now, we just have to find our New Deal out of this mess.

Well the UK is officially in a recession right now but for me as long as I get my £30 a week for going to college it probably won't affect me. I just hope its all over by the time I finish university.

As for Gordon Brown, I should be eligible to vote at the next election so if his party can't persuade me that he's done a good job that "eton prick" will get my vote.

Its going to hit the US and its probably going to hit us hard. The best jobs to be in for a depression is food industry, government jobs, and possibly entertainment industry. Essentially what the public needs to survive.

The usual recession, hurting big businesses. If you want a job in the US, attack the Small Business area, an average of 201,748 new jobs per month were created by small business in 2007, and this wave of small businesses creating jobs isn't stopping. Looks like in the US, small business is were all the jobs are being created, looks like we are going back to the days where small, local businesses dominated the cities instead of large, big businesses.

I've not felt the recession, I work for the NHS, don't own a house and don't live on credit so I should be alright.

Unemployment is rapidly heading toward 3 million though, not seen that since Thatcher.

$8,000? You've got it easy, a UK graduate will have an average debt of something like £12,000. Admittedly the majority of that is zero interest government debt but still it's what? 3 times as much?

you know what got us out of the 1st one? A World War. However, its extremely unlikely that'll happen, with the UN and all. Besides, war (an unwinnable one at that) has had a hand in putting us in this situation to begin with.
Uh, correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't The Great Depression caused by a massive, yet unsustainable, growth in shares, and then mass selling of shares, causing a panic that drastically reduced the price of shares? Wait...:
The Great Depression was accredited to the events leading up to and following Black Thursday, October 1929. The end of the ?Great War?, and the subsequent prosperity that followed, resulted in the strengthening of the US economy. This boom resulted in a get rich quick scheme, where a person would buy shares on the US stock exchange, hold onto them for a little while, and then sell them for a higher price, which went against the norm of the share trading, where most people held onto shares for longer periods of time. This scheme was commonplace in the US, until one massive sale of shares created mass hysteria on the US stock exchange, resulting with the masses selling their shares. With the plethora of shares suddenly on the market, share prices plummeted, resulting the bankruptcy of several US industries and companies. Black Thursday nearly collapsed the US economy, but the US government went into action, raising massive tariffs on imported products and demanding their overseas loans be repaid. And with most of the industrialised world owing money to the US, the dominoes fell, and the industrialised world entered the Great Depression.

Thing is, China's economy is slowing down... and I'm sure the Middle East's economy will as well, since a very large majority of its buyers, 'the West', aren't buying any more, reducing demand. If I remember, China has already announced a stimulus package for its businesses. Link [http://www.economist.com/blogs/theworldin2009/2008/11/chinas_stimulus_package.cfm].

Oh, as for me, Australia's just being hit by the recession, since China is just starting to slow down. We've had job cuts, but it's mainly been in the mining sector, where the companies are scaling back operations because of reduced demand. I'm probably not going to be hit in the very near future, since my family is the last in line for the chopping block.

Why does everybody blame Gordon Brown for everything?

It's a worldwide depression that began in the American housing market. Where does Gordon Brown come into it? All I've seen him do is work hard to try and make Britain not be broken.

meh, things will get better. If we are then we'll get out of it. Lets hope we dont need a full blown world war to help the economy. But since this really isn't a depression i wouldn't worry.
