Most of the time I prefer either a mage or a warrior. If possible, I use a combination of the two. If a character is just a warrior I usually make them a more paladin-like character who is very childlike, whereas with a mage I make the character more cynical, having more experience with the world than the naive warrior. A combo of the two is usually knowledgeable about the world's injustices but has the will to improve it.
