If you mean CrazyBerk, he wasn't banned on the duck thread, and still posts [http://www.ci.yuma.az.us/Images/General/ss-3281981-rubberDuckies.jpg] every now and again.

Yeah it's getting kind of stupid, I know it's all just fun and games but at the same time it is pretty old.

No it's not. You said so yourself. As a matter of fact, this contradicts a lot of your original 'observation'.

Anywho, you've got a valid point. I'll stop posting them at random (which I believe I only did once), though it is a nice little chuckle to poke fun at the creators of anti-kitten threads.

Whats this about the Escapist being the smartest place on internet?

Oh so false

It's sort of a meme and it isn't. It isn't a meme for the ones who don't get the joke. It's a meme for the ones that do. It's not contradicting what I said, since I didn't made a generalization about it. Now I am doing a generalization about the behaviour by saying it's a meme.
Fair enough, but what exactly is the joke behind them? It's really got me wondering now.

I never thought kittens would take over the site [http://indianweatherrock.com/weather-rock-web-images/rubberDuck.jpg].

Because we already have an animal meme. And it's rubber duckies.
Hail to the ducky overlords!
I'm just glad I got out of that thread before I was banned. I know what happened to the creator.
What do you mean? I don't remember anything bad happening to anyone involved in that thread.
He was banned or something along the lines. Came back after-wards and then just faded out of existence.
Heh. Nope. That thread was originally a duplicate one I had accidentally created, and thus named it "Please ignore this thread." It was then mutated into The Duck Thread by some other folks.

I never got banned for it, and I certainly hope I haven't faded out of existence.

No I mean bubbaroark0451.

He made the thread seeing if a thread about nothing could be self-sustaining and so some of us started posting duck pictures.

I may be wrong, but he stopped in 08 and never posted again(maybe he was bored, but I digress).

Well then, it appears we are talking about two different threads [http://www.gadzooki.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/pondtrooper_star_wars_rubber_ducky.JPG].

I would say that if it is indeed a social experiment it likely has something to do with the tolerance levels of people getting annoyed about completely ridiculous things. In creating this thread, if indeed it is a social experiment, you've pretty much made the experiment a success. However I am not inside that computer mounted on that well-dressed man's head so I have no idea what the real purpose is. Even so, who cares, it kittens? If it was tentacle hentai bullshit it would be a problem but its not, its kittens.

I think we can blame our excellent friend NewClassic for this recent trend.
It's Susan's fault actually. I quote: "Moar kittenz plz." Seriously though? The "I like a girl.." thread started out as a joke between myself and Nuke. It grew way beyond that once Amnestic waged in. It is, however, Nuke's "thing" so I leave it to his use.

NewClassic was the one to go around posting the kitten links though, was he not?

EDIT: I don't want to be a naysayer of NewClassic, but.....Well......It's just gotten out of hand is all...In an annoying (to me) way.

I know you're all expecting a kitten picture link from everyone in this thread. Just don't think I will sink to your level. There is no way I will EVER post a picture of a kitten on The Escapist.

EVER.

P.S: Here's the expected punchline [http://silkiestar-siberian-cats.co.uk/images/kitten4.jpg].

I'm totally going by feel here, but I'm going to have to say it's more likely an experiment in spreading a meme.

Even more likely? It doesn't mean anything at all and NewClassic is getting a huge kick out of all this =)
Its my general opinion that its the latter of those two. But, I keep my "social experiment on tolerance levels" opinion as possibility looming 'neath me like large nibbley fish.

Hey, at least they're not lolcats. If the site gets flooded with that, I'll take it as a sign of the start of the Armageddon, or something.

Thats how I see it, its not intrusive so does it really matter? NewClassic allways making good sizeable posts, so he's allowed to link to pictures of random cats.
