Or alternatively, Loggy dissects The Escapists' Ego, Leaves Permanently Scarred
[sub]This is for anyone who has looked at the front page and asked why there's nothing interesting to talk about[/sub]

So you've made a thread. It could be a link to an article, a long rant about politics, or just a two-line quip that eventually gets twenty pages under it's belt.

It's obvious what the point of this thread is, but I'll spell it out (again); what did you do it for? Were you bored? Did you have something to say? Was there nothing that interested you? Did you have a question?

This isn't a hate thread; I'm genuinely interested in this. I fall into the "Something important to say" category. I won't make a thread unless I have a point to make. That's not to say I've never made threads to ask questions; my first thread was like that. Likewise, I'm not trying to constrict you to one option, just asking what your most common reason is.

Apologies Abound

EDIT: Made a couple changes to the poll; added a, "Haven't made one yet" option, and changed another to "Forum Games/RP". Discussion is still up.

Thanks to everyone for contributing.

I like to think I make threads when I have something profound to say, important to discuss, or really really funny to bring to the attention of the masses.

As it says in the Guidelines, making threads is an art. Making posts is an art. It requires a lot more effort to come up with a truly great thread than most people understand and I think it's unfortunate just how few of these we see at the moment. If there's anything I would like to do as a mod it's to shift the general tilt of these forums away from the aggressive low-content "My Opinion, Tis Of Thee" attitude I see so often. And really, it's the attitude people bring to the forum that makes all the difference. We're not here to scream at the top of our lungs. These sections are "Off-topic Discussion", "Gaming Discussion", etc. The aforementioned guidelines make a point about the importance of conversing.

I suppose that's the biggest difference I notice from when I started. There was a saturation of high-content posts with references, research, informed opinion and the like. That saturation was self-perpetuating much the same as the current habit of low-content posts is. Now I consider it rare to see posts beyond the three paragraph mark. I really miss them.

As such I've been trying to get back into the game of making complex and discussive threads and keeping my standards high when posting in general. Alas that I should find myself increasingly busy at the same time as I come to a potential fruition of long dreams. Ladies, gentlemen, and those who don't wish to or haven't decided. I invite you to join me in a tedious and potentially unrewarding attempt to lift the bar once again.
A fine response, I think.

I don't think I've made a thread in months, and it was months between that and the one before it.

When I do make them, it's usually because I've written a story or anecdote I'd like people to read, but apart from that I don't forge all that many.

I think I've only made one thread, so I picked, uhh...

Well, let's say I didn't pick an option on the poll, yet.

It's nice too see how others see things, weather it be a similar view to your own or not. Forums are just a great way of putting one question/point of view out there and get hundereds of opinions back pretty quickly..
Much easier than asking 100 random people on the street? I think so

Plus it keeps me busy at work, gives me somewhere where i can express myself.. not just be stuck in a booth on a computer.

's fine, no rush. Wise men wait while fools rush in.

...sorry. It was supposed to be a roundabout complement...

To find out if anyone likes Babylon 5 http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.169068 [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.169068].

The answer from a small cross section seemed to be "Hell yeah!"

I've only made 3 threads in my time here.
One, because I wanted to find out if Sheva was the most hated Resident Evil character.
another for favourite film in a certain series, and one to celebrate reaching 1k posts (pfft).
I don't really intend to make any more threads, unless I decide to make a story thread like some others do to celebrate... doubt it though.

I usually seek to find people's opinions on certain things, though i avoid making threads too often. My latest threads, for the most part, have all been RPs, or reviews, however I just made a discussion thread for ME2, thus trying to eliminate all the ME2 threads that have been popping up, while giving fans of the game a place to chat about the game, ask questions, and such things as that.

In short, threads I create, are about the transfer of information, not just trivial droll things

I made one thread on here, it was about a news article I found. I think it got 6 or 7 replies before dropping into nothingness...

I gave up on making threads. I only ever got to two pages, all of which happened while I was off doing other things. Then, they were dead and remained untouched. Most of them dropped off the first page in about 10 minutes.

I made them for discussing stuff that no one seems to talk about here. There must be a reason no one talks about those things though, as they weren't interested.

I've stopped making threads on OT. At least I think I did, can't remember making one for a while..

Anyway, when I did make threads it was more of a "news thread" where I was saying "hey look at what someone somewhere did on the other side of the world while you were fast asleep". I like sharing opinions and ideas and bringing things to the attention of people.

As of late I can't be bothered anymore. Got stuff to do, so I just comment on threads that deem a response vs just responding for the sake of it.

Heck, even flame wars, annoying as they are, are at least interesting.
Good point ;) ... as much as i hate being on the recieving end, i love a good flame war. I love watching people getting wound up about one thing or another, no matter how trivial...

I also like to do threads mostly when im bored. I do attempt to search them first just incase it has already been done, so far my threads have been reasonably original or at least twisted so that they are not quite the same as a previous/similar one.

In the duration of my stay here, I have made a total of three threads.
One was a joke, one was an honest attempt at sparking discussion, and the other was a stupid thread made purely because I hit a thousand posts (this was back before that became cool, you see).

I felt the best way of conveying this via the poll was "fuck you, that's why."
Yup.
