Is it just me or are a lot of rpg suddenly giving dog as a companion? So which dog do you think is the most helpful out of everybody in the list?

I'd have to say the mabari war hound, because that sob was insanity incarnate... and he pissed off morrigan so much that it made it worth it to keep her in my party even though I had to tell her to shut up every other mission.

I guess I would have to say the dog in Fable 2. He effectively finds every single bit of treasure hidden on the map. Haven't noticed him do much in combat, but he can't die so his lack of fighting power is not really a problem. However, he is incredibly annoying. Him finding every piece of treasure sounds good but when you consider that a lot of treasure is as valuable as dirt covered condom, he becomes annoying very quickly.

True, but you've given me another reason to exclude him from the list in your very first post:

Sam and Max games are point-n-click adventure games, not rpgs, if memory serves. So nye.

(Unless - and this I'm not sure about - those are a sub-genre of rpgs, in which case I'll be getting ready to have my argument fed to me with a rusty pitchfork.)

Hm...though they aren't very popular, there's also Hewie from Haunting Ground and Brown from Rule of Rose. They're both great dogs. So...I'm going to gave to say Other and my vote is going to Hewie.
