Edit: come to think of it, have you ever played as the Moors? They are quite powerful too, and they have Camel Gunners eventually. They're starting position is a bit meagre though, but you are reasonably safe from outside threats.
I did, until eventually the Mongols managed to get me there too.

How... unfortunate. I think last time I played with the Moors, the Mongols weren't any sort of force to be afraid of. I may be mistaken however, it's been a while now. I think the Timurids pulled the sting out of their bite long before they could hurt me properly.

I miss Rome, sadly its not vista compatiable, stupid directx 9 error. But I'm hooked on Empire, Medieval didn't do it for me.
I run vista and I can play Rome Total War. I don't think I've downloaded any patches or anything either..

I run it on a 64-bit Vista machine with only the occasional problem.

Shogun. Rocking it old school.

Rome was utterly unbalanced and anyone who doesn't believe me has never put together an army comprised of the following:

1 Unit General's Bodyguard
1 Unit Heavy Infantry (whatever you've got
18 Units War Dogs

It's insanely cheap to recruit and upkeep and can basically do anything. The infantry are only there to make battering rams for attacking cities - the dogs can do everything else, with the possible exception of handling elephants.

All the way to Tripoli man, and just as I was planning my assault on Sicily and Egypt.
Oh what a waste.

And the Egyptians weren't there to buffer for you? The Mongols actually bypassed them in order to get to you? Man that's a bummer.. Or I must be mistaken. And weren't the Camel Spearmen of any use versus their cavalry? Guess not, if I recall correctly they were supposed to frighten horses, but they also shit their own pants when seeing enemy units...

Medieval 2 is only good with mods on, its one of those games that got saved by the moding community.

But anyway my favourite is Rome. Maybe it will change to Empire in some time after it gets patched and modded.

Rome!

Out of all of them, it was the one that had the most replayability for me, so gets my vote.

I really should play Rome again. The mods are awesome and I have never played any. :(

Anyhow Medieval II's Stainless Steal Mod looks absolutely amazing. The team essentially redesigned the game, adding RP elements even. I have yet to try it however it has received immense praise.

Dude...dont waste more time and go download it!

After plugging it in you will never ever ever ever play ME2 unmodded.

Stainless Steel is one of the best mods ever to be released to a video game, after playing you will think to yourself "So this is how this game was suppose to be...".

Medieval 2 to me is like Oblivion. Two very imcomplete games that got saved by the modding comunity.

http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=159996 Stop wasting time download now and never leave home again!

And for Rome get those Rome Total Realism they great.

rome (love medieval 2 to but i had to choose) it got me hooked for long, then we created a lan friend club (through the internet) and played battles every week. either against the computer or against each other.
and recently for a matter of fact i have started to play it again.

Rome demands victory from the generals!

Despite the new features in Empire, Rome was my favorite.

If they made Rome 2: Total War with all the improvements of Empire, I think I would crap my pants.

Oh man I love Total War and my favourite has to be a tie between Shogun and the first Medieval.

The main reason is that they both had great atmosphere, which helped me feel more immersed in the game.

Rome is a brilliant game in itself but never quite grabbed me as the first two did. Med II was a failure but luckily a very skilled modding community turned it into something great.

As for Empire I haven't bother buying since reading how many bugs and issues it has right now and the AI felt terrible in the demo I played.

Thanks for the high recommendation, glad to here how awesome it is. I have it downloaded I just need to wait a bit to purchase Kingdoms for the mod to work and then I'll give it a whirl.
