Whats a turbo controller?
Allows you to virtually press a button on the controller a large number of times a second by just holding down the button, E.G. It would allow you to unload a clip of pistol in under a second just by holding the button down.
Imagine it was me who asked, then you replied to me, now I'm replying to you (and the OP):

They sound shit - what's the point? Other than the ability to cheat.

I had a N64 controller which had a "trubo" button on it. apparently that translates as the "break the console" button.

not sure if that's what you're referring to.

tbh, I'd imagine PC gamers will suffer from this way more (what with the huge variety of mouses) but you don't here us complaining.
Actually, I downloaded some software to cheat in a facebook game.
1408 clicks in 30 seconds!

They let you kill people with single shot weapons as if they were fully automatic, and hence allowing you to win more easily at shooting games, also good if you can't be arsed with quicktime events that make you press a button repeatedly.

So cheating?

I can't name a scenario where it would really come up in multiplayer, and the only situation it would be of relevance in SP is skipping through a small percentage of annoying QTE. Don't see a problem.

I guess you never really played COD4 or MW2 online then

Actually, he didn't know. He was just bluffing, it turns out :3

Anyway, I consider it cheating (Well, in multiplayer).
Not much more I can say.

Actually no, he only knows if you use "auto-fire", as he calls it. There's a difference between auto-fire and turbo. Turbo works just fine, auto-fire does not.

There aren't many games requiring fast-tapping on buttons anymore...

I wonder how a turbo wii-mote would work?
A hand that wiggles it for you?
*struggles to avoid laughing at obvious innuendo*

I had a Turbo-Button PS1 controller. It replaced the thumbsticks with the turbo setting switch, so I hated it.

In MP, it can be considered cheating. Team Fortress 2 had scripts for semi-auto pistol allowing to use it as full-auto, and Valve eventually made pistol fire at a fixed rate.

Owning one exclusively for "mash-a-button" quicktime events is just pointless.

turbo controller in general is awsome, I understand people can cheat with it but it can do SO much good things (tho havent found many times on my PS3 yet) but I got it on PS2 and I love it

when you ask? ANY game that regularly demands that you press a button like a idiot OR to help you "skip" Sequence.

the gun in DMC is a very good example it does low damage and it damage your finger from spamming it so much, atlest with turbo it becomes worth using

or ANY game without skip, just set the turbo and go to the bathroom

there isen't anything "pathetic" in using a turbo button (maybe if you use it for competitive online) but believing you are "hardcore" because you tapp a button really fast is pathetic

First off sorry if this has already been done recently, I used the search bar but could find nothing specifically on this topic.

OT: Turbo (or rapid-fire) controllers have been around for quite a while, and I even owned one for the ps2, but I wan't to hear what other people think about them.

I would consider turbo controllers a universal cheat that is becoming an increasing problem in online games. In almost every game on COD4 before MW2 came out someone was using a turbo controller.
Did I stumble into 1988?

Dude? We going to see Whitesnake this weekend or what? Rad!

It's cheating. It's giving yourself an edge over everyone else by taking your input device and making it do some or most of the work for you.

Think of it this way, even though it's a stretch: If your input device were your body, and your game was football, would improving your input device via steroids be considered cheating?

For everyone who is still unsure of what a turbo pad does exactly, take a look at a couple of this guys videos. http://www.youtube.com/user/RapidFireMods I accidentally stumbled across it by clicking on an advert while trying to watch anime. xD

And for my vote, of course they're all out cheating and rather pointless really. It's not like you could take one to a tournament or anything, so all it's really doing is dulling your skills. =/

Macro controllers can be extremely usefull for fighting games, means just you can repeat that 20 button combo at one press.

I admit to playing PC primarily, but there's only so fast a gun will fire. Unless you have a serious problem pressing buttons rapidly, I don't see there being a significant increase in rate of fire. It might be a slight convenience with a small number of automatic pistols, but nothing that could not be matched by a decent button tapping ability.

I love them and programmable controllers, anything to make me suck less and not have to deal with wanky button layouts or crazy waggle combos....

I've never encountered someone with a turbo-controller but I have heard they're a pain in the ass. Are they more of a problem on Xbox-Live than on PSN?
So I'd say if they're used in multiplayer, it's cheating. Otherwise I have no problem.

But I have to ask, why need one anyway? It your reaction time is that slow, it's a wonder how said person can play games at all.
