After wasting an entire day that should have been spent doing the metric buttload of vacation homework screwing around on TV Tropes, it got me to wondering. What the hell is it with this site?

Once it has it's grips on you, you can never, ever escape. It changes the way you look at everything. It changes the way you talk. One look at just one of it's pages, and suddenly it is the next day and you're wondering why the hell you're so hungry.

Wait a minute. I think I've figured it out.

TV Tropes is Cthulhu.

(And just because I'm evil as fuck, here's a random link. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Ptitlexn9xzsjd5fif?from=Main.ChekhovsGun MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA)

Fool. You should have linked it to the random page function.

It's awesome. Not quite Cthulhu, it's not quite that insanity inducing, but it is awesome. I've lost several days to it in the past.

Must resist urge to click link....

OT: Trivial knowledge is addictive, anyone who's read the Bathroom Reader books can attest to it, it's the same kind of thing.

I think you'd find MovieBob's latest article, Trope-a-Dope [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/columns/moviebob/7190-Trope-a-Dope] to be quite interesting. It relates to that very website.

And no, I ain't clicking that. I learned my lesson last time.

Every time I click on a link there I end up spending a few hours just reading and giggling quietly to myself...

Actually, you eventually reach the point where you've read so much that you can avoid spending entire days there. I reached that point after two years, granted, but still.

Needless to say, I consider it So Cool, It's Awesome, with a side helping of Made of Win.

I never got TV Tropes, yeah sure some of my friends have linked me to it but I only read what the link says and "X" of the page. Can someone tell me why people find it so addicting?

I remember the first time I discovered TV Tropes. It was evening, I was browsing it before going to bed.

The next thing I knew, my alarm clock was going off.

I've only been there once.
I don't remember how I stumbled upon it, but I never wish to go back there again.
Pretty sure I got lucky the first time, managed to escape before I was consumed completely.

i cannot visit that site without opening 30 new tabs. XKDC had the best comment on it.

It's a very useful tool, and supremely interesting to browse. It is not, however, a tool for critiquing. It's a resource.

I just spent the past 3 hours or so reading it so....yeah. Everyone must check out the "reality is unrealistic" article. It's fantastic. Easily half an hour or more of great reading.
