I've always found FIFA the kind of game that is only fun when played on the couch with friends. I'm not interested enough in soccer to go solo. And since none of my friends like FIFA, the choice of purchase is obvious:

Well, news for you who haven't played the game you're snobbing over with your New Yorker-esque pose (not that you'd care, and will continue to sneer with prejudgmental faces ad infinitum): FIFA was long regarded as the weaker title to Pro-Evolution Soccer, despite regularly outselling it 2:1. The criticism that it was just mutton dressed as lamb used to be quite accurate:
Fifa 1994-1998 were generally regarded as innovative
Fifa 1999-2003 sucked eggs (competition from titles such as Actua Soccer had dwindled)
Fifa 2004-2009 were mainly graphical updates, inclusion of a broader range of global leagues, more detailed player faces, but remained the same game with shinier paintwork.
Fifa 2010-2011, however, were the two years that they actually improved the game; physics, graphics, fun factor, the general feel and tone of the game was far more polished. It was an instant leapfrogging of Konami's PES disappointing, weaker effort, and it no longer felt like the 'gimmicks' (superspecialwowtricks) were tacked on, but were a polished, integral part of the game that you had to really practice to get right. Timing and tactics became everything, so the button bashers couldn't thrash you as you spent longer trying to thread a perfect through-ball to split the defence in twain. The fun element remained, yet for the serious gamers you could tweak your team like an F1 car to get the most out of them.
Fifa 12 has, according to reviews, expanded on this, and really took advantage of improved graphics engines, and use of the Impact Engine - no more by-the-numbers animation: each player on the field reacts to his environment with impressive ragdoll physics, unlike previous titles. The game has taken an entire overhaul; a redefinition, so to speak. It's like the leap from sprites to polygons, only the transition is made between a single pair of games in a franchise one year apart, rather than virtually a decade of technological advancement. It's impressive.
So, no, EA Sports might be a shit megaglobocorporation looking for your money, but damn do they invest heavily in their franchises. FIFA has been a product that has had both ups and downs; despite being the no.1 selling football simulator since its inception, bad reviews can mean $millions of lost revenue, because that's the power of criticism; nothing is infallible. They need to constantly move forward or die, like a shark, or Woody Allen's past relationships.
Saying that, I wish I had an PS3 so I could buy ICO. It is one of the best games I have ever played, and I miss playing it terribly. My vote is for ICO.
So anyway, don't judge me for enjoying a game in a genre you feel justified in pouring scorn upon. It's just that I have wide-ranging tastes, and can enjoy a good game no matter what system it is on, or genre it is. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll be busy playing either Farmville or Okami or Baldur's Gate or Imagine: Pet Hospital, as I'm not a gaming snobhole.
