It'll never happen. I don't know how I would feel about this either, I mean you would be watching someone else die on live tv. I think we've advanced past that stage of humanity (although the meathead UFC junkies would love it)

What about televised gladiator-type combat with taser based weaponry? Like stun-clubs or blast knuckles or something? I'd sign up in a spastic heartbeat.

But if you wanna put rapists and murderers in a ring then be my guest.
Is that even a punishment for murderers? I bet they'd enjoy gladiatorial combat.
You're assuming that everyone who commits murder are serial killers.

Well if they want to live they'll have to be, wont they?

Just have a new rule set for MMA - no taps, no KO, no ref stoppage. Every match a deathmatch!

Actually, I do kind of wish they'd allow me to have a deathmatch mode for UFC Unleashed but I doubt they ever will. I could get as close as I ever will to watching Brock "Tool" Lesnar die in the octagon.

Two men enter, one man leaves. And then the other man leaves after being declared the victor!

Cookie for the reference.

OT: It has bad idea written all over it.

/sarcasm off

In all seriousness, its a bad idea.

I would happily pay to see this, as for how to stop kids from seeing it, that's the hard part. An unarmed version would be like the movie Bloodsport for the men and Pushed to the Limit for women. As for an armed version the only rule should be no distance weapons, that makes it too easy for an innocent to get hurt.

Invent time travel and go back to Ancient Rome and Greece during the Coliseum days. You'll have a fucking blast.

..And admittedly, I wouldn't be opposed to such a system for maximum security inmates. I mean, they are already ganking themselves within the prison walls, why not add some sport to it? I'm aware of how barbaric it sounds, yes, but.. who didn't enjoy Gladiator and Spartacus to some extent, eh?

Yeah don't think that's such a good idea. Neither economically nor morally.

If we really have people we want to get rid off I don't think this is an effective way of doing so. And putting people in such a "kill or be killed" situation for entertainment seems highly immoral.

They probably still wouldn't. Even if two people consented, I don't think anyone would like a bloodsport in this day and age. It'd be pretty fucked up. Too brutal a sport, and too violent to allow anyone to watch it.
UFC+Boxing?

Only difference is the degree of brutality, principly identical.

If two consenting then whatever, but that shit should be locked *tight* from minors.
I would actually only be interested if children were fighting. I mean adults are generally moral and would only enter for money for their family or to quell anger or something.

Meanwhile sociopathic children fighting would be hilarious because I don't consider them peoples.

Nowhere in this modern world would anyone allow it. As for if people would want it? Weeeeeeell.....

You severely misunderstand the cruelty and bloodlust of the human race. Many of us absolutely love to see people get killed. Don't think so? Watch pretty much any blockbuster movie ever. They are almost always about action, and lots of people die. One of our most celebrated modern heroes, Indiana Jones, kills without consequence and in the most casual way possible. Also, let's not forget video games and the massive amount of violence and gore put into them. And then there's the whole "Thousand Ways To Die" thing.

My point is that many humans will not admit it but we like violence and blood, provided it isn't aimed toward us. If this did start happening and was eventually accepted as something that the scum of the earth are forced into, not many people would speak out against it.
There's a difference between movies and video games and real life. I'm pretty sure that people would react very differently if they were to watch live Gladiator Combat to the death as opposed to say play Call of Duty or God of War for a couple hours. Humans like competition, not necessarily violence and blood. I'm positive you would certainly get a huge outcry against televised deathmatches. As for subjecting the scum of the earth to fight it out to the death, well maybe we should just give you a rifle and you can shoot any "scumbag" that comes through our legal system (it would sure be quicker).

Real =/= known to be faked

Don't believe me?

Three guys
One Hammer

Your turn (Or was my aversion to it (Near vomit and could not watch more than 30 seconds) anomalous? Dear god I hope not)

But this is the same guy who can watch 300 without a flinch.

No. It would be a step backwards for mankind, and I thought we tried to avoid those?

I was surprised by the results of the poll. There must be a lot of very young people on this site...

It's funny how many people here are saying its fine if people consent to it. Free will is over-rated and people don't know what they get themselves into until its too late. This is basically legalizing murder if you haven't been clued in to it.

Well I disagree. While many people watch movies and other media focused around killing, very few people will watch real-life snuff videos of people being beheaded and such. People aren't as desensitised to actual violence and loss of life as they think they are.

I know people who have seen such videos, and they said they couldn't eat for a day or so, and those people watch plenty of violent stuff.

UFC is just about allowed in most places, though I think it still isn't legal in some parts of America, like New York? Sure, there will be plenty of people who want to see some old fashioned murder, but that plenty in comparison to the ones who would lash out against it would be tiny.

Trust me, the difference between fictional violence and real violence is completely different. Alarm bells just go off in your head telling you "this is pretty wrong.". Sure, the sociopaths or the apathetic won't mind, but the rest of the world would.

Now I'm just thinking about The Running Man, even though that's more than two men entering...
