I happen to like quick time events. Though it could be because I've only had to face them in good games. I can imagine having them suck in bad games I guess. I mean look at Shenmu, QTE are a basic part of the game, and if you fail one or even a dozen it isn't a game breaker.

If done well, Quick-Time Events can be fun. Just look at Indigo Prophecy and Heavy Rain which rely almost solely upon them. If you just throw them in at random, then it's a bit hard to be prepared for such a thing, making them needlessly frustrating.

I don't even know which button is which on the PS controller or the Wiimote. There's no logic to it.

They're all right sometimes. I don't see what all the fuss is about really.

I personally have no problem with quick time events. I don't get why they get so much hate to be honest

Yahtzee of course.

The same reason we always have the words 'generic', 'mediocre' and 'JRPG's suck' thrown around on a weekly basis.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
I dont mind them if they are done right, but alot of games dont use them right, wet seems to do a good job with them since you use the jump button to jump during them or the attack button to attack and it gives you enough reaction time for it. If your going to include quick time events dont make them really hard, it breaks flow like nothing else

I've never had a problem with QTEs. The games I've played have executed them well and it didn't break the flow of gameplay.

If they're an intricate part of gameplay they are fine, but when they're thrown in randomly they are horrible. I'm tempted to mention Uncharted's use of them, since there's no way to predict them, you commonly die. This is at least what I experienced, as I'd just be walking around when a massive "X" flashes on screen and despite mashing it as hard/fast as I could I was a millisecond too late/slow and die. This was also the problem with the end boss fight in that game. In a game like Heavy Rain though they work incredibly well.

I don't really mind quick time events. Probably because I don't play many games with them in. The last game I played where QTE's pissed me off was Resi 5.

I've never had any trouble with them... err... except button mashing ones... those bother me... especially the one in Tony Hawk's American Wasteland were you had to button mash to get to green top or whatever... I could never even get the bar to go up...

They haven't really bothered me, any. In COD, I may not be able to save myself when a dog jumps on me, but I just shoot the fuckers first.

I'm pretty damn good at that.

I actually enjoy QTE's. I can understand how some people hate them, but they shouldn't be banned.

They're not exactly a challenge, or an annoyance, just pointless really. If I wanted quicktime events I'd play those full motion video games like Dragon's Lair.

The thing is... I always thought those types of games were unpopular because they sucked... so I don't understand why one of the aspects of them would be brought back...

I get the impression you're a PC gamer, have you tried playing with a 360 controller?
dude, most of the games hes complaining about is on consoles. Jericho, Gears 2, Mercenaries 2.

i can't see that they're that much of a problem. maybe you just get annoyed because you aren't good enough at them? as long as they fit in with the gameplay, i see no problem.

I don't like them if they don't relate to what's onscreen.

For example, I liked the ones on InFamous where you tapped X whilst directing your hand towards "The Boss's" face as he tried to push it away. Rapid tap got the strain, directing got the "try to move your hand when someone has grabbed it"

I agree with Fightgarr. QTEs can be done well. It's just that mostly they aren't.

I think the trick is sticking to the control conventions of the normal game. Uncharted did this and it made them feel less out of place.

Also, I think one of the best QTEs was one of the first. In "Out of This World" or "Another World" there's a QTE that doesn't give you what button to press, but it does give you a long time to figure it out. The trick was to remember a button-function from early in the game that you hadn't used in a long time.

I agree with the topic's author. QTEs are made by lazy designers with never-to-be-realised aspirations as film-makers. They're a simplistic workaround because someone didn't have the imagination to design a real control system.

i find them to be completely pointless. if you want them for lets say to kill as boss in a awesome way, OK. but i think you should have a choice.
