Simply put, what setting would you vouch for as a good place to set an RPG? Consider what developer you'd want for that game too. These are the choices that I could see making the most sense in terms of gameplay and story.

I'd vouch for Ancient Greece and the Mediterranean area/mythology. While its monsters, heroes, and gods are oft used in games, they rarely have any sort of faithful authenticity or context, and centering a Role Playing Game around that stuff would be killer, especially if the developer also infused real-life characters like Socrates, Sappho and Draco. I can imagine Bioware doing it well. Also, I know about Jason and the Argonauts, but that's not what I'm looking for in a game.

So, what about you guys? What would like and why?

I think medieval Persia would make an interesting setting, although it has already been done by the Prince of Persia series

yeah i agree with you some thing that uses the new generation of console's power to the max to make a sand box rpg that is true to the pirate way of being.

We already got Titan Quest for that.
I'd like to see more "floating islands"-fantasy/steampunk, for some reason I always enjoy that setting.
Thinking of Sacrifice, Project Nomads, Spellforce... there's bound to be more, that I didn't think of right now.

How about a canadian rpg, where you go around being nice to everybody, picking 700 different accents and hunt polar bears?....well the polar bear thing was a good idead and now that i think about it, i'd love to choose my characters accent in an rpg, assuming they talk at all.

I don't like any of these settings, except maybe ancient Greece. But thats just because of God of War.

Ancient Greece has been done, but I'd definitely love to see several of these options, like the Golden Age of Pirates, the Age of Exploration, and Native American (particularly Incan/Aztec/Mayan) mythology. I'd also like to see some stuff set during the height of the British Empire, Russian mythology, Indian (Asia India) mythology, the 19th century, Pacific islands, the near future . . . the list goes on and on.

There are so many options!

I'd like to see a really good Greek mythology RPG, but more than that, I want a really good, epic space opera RPG. Like Mass Effect, but not as focused on the military and on a much bigger scale.

Actually, were they any decent World War related RPG? Well, excluding Silent Storm etc ...
Then there is also a lack of modern age RPG, leave those annoying elves and drunk midgets be :(

We have seen tonnes of World War games but most of them have been shooters rather than RPG's so I would have to say a WW1/2 would be interesting.

I'd have to go world war, because while we have world war games to the umpteenth degree, I'm not sure if there is a single one that features RPG elements.

yep, world war as above users state there has been a good amount of fps games that covered the world wars but never a good rpg. if its done right it could be the new blockbuster.
