Any setting without swords in them. Why do almost all RPGs have to take place in a fantasy/pre-gunpowder setting? Plenty of RPGs have done guns well, like Fallout 3, Mass Effect, or Deus Ex (though that was a bit of a FPS/RPG hybrid). So why is swords-n-sorcery the norm?

The only RPG setting I'm TRULY HONESTLY bored with is "Generic Idealised Medieval" Fantasy like you see in Oblivion, Two Worlds and tons of other games (I'm looking at you DnD Titles!). IF you MUST make a Medieval game, give me real, gritty, gross, paranoid, oppressive, fanatically religious, SCARY medievalism... basically a Game of Thrones or Warhammer Fantasy RPG...

However what I would like to see more?

An RPG based around Non-Kung-Fu Movie Mythical China (Yes, contrary to popular belief there IS more to an asian setting than martial arts).

A Clock Punk RPG set in the Renaissance

A full blown Space Opera RPG, complete with playable Starship Battles and an Epic Galaxy Crossing Story.

A Steampunk Western RPG, no not developed in the west, I mean a legit WESTERN RPG... Wild Arms is too much Fantasy not enough Western! I want MORE I say!

And what you would do with a World War RPG intrigues me... so I would LOVE to see one made.

I'd love to see a good Victorian/Colonial-Era RPG. Just exploring new places, the combination of guns and swords, not to mention the political volativity of the period would make for an awesome setting.
There's a tabletop RPG called Victoriana set in a fantastical version of England in 1862. Steampunk and magic abound. No CRPG, though. That would be awesome.
I'm actually salivating. It seems like quite a similar setting to Arcanum, though simplified to quite a nice level I think :)
It is very awesome. The works of Man have perverted the natural and arcane, creating horrible abominations and stuff.

Alternatively, Space 1889, which is about Victorian-era space exploration and colonisation. Think a cyberpunk Victoriana, with aliens.

Hmm, I'm not so sure about the space setting, but it still looks very awesome, as you say :)

I'd like a Pirate RPG.
It could have the Flying Spaghetti Monster as the tutorial NPC.

most of these would be awesome settings for an RPG, I don't see the secret agent one and the World war setting would work very well.

Colonialism.

And honestly, I'd love to play an RPG in all of those settings you listed.

I'd love to see an RPG where you play as a Native American fighting against European invaders. Theme song: Iron Maiden-Run to the Hills

Somebody should make an RPG set in Australia where you can play a Convict or a Gold Miner or a Chinaman, and if you're a Convict you try and either escape or serve your time, as a Gold Miner you compete with other miners, and as a Chinaman you would try not to get shanked by racist Gold Miners and Convicts. It would be like Fallout only minus the post-apocalyptic Mad Max references but somehow we would have to make it better than the Australia movie.

I also think Egyptian myth RPG setting is incredibly underused, I mean, have you read the Book of the Dead? I've read some of it, and the descriptions of the Egyptian netherworld are so rich that you can see why these spiritual images were so powerful for Egyptian people.

Most RPGs tend to go for magical forest with conveniently close icy vales and deserts for diversion. It would be cool to see some other settings sometimes. I really like most of the options you opted. In fact, I want to see them all except for Secret Agent (would be more of an FPS kind of thing.. although, Deus Ex did this, sort of, right?) and World Wars (plenty of FPS games doing this settings. No need for an RPG).

I'd say, out of the options available, that a spy RPG would be pretty awesome. However, my vote would definitely go for anything Steampunk. Yeah, I'm a steampunk fanboy, and aside from Bioshock I don't think there are nearly enough good steampunk games out there, especially not in the RPG genre...

Modern day.

Yeah, I went there. I defied the general laws of escapism in RPGs by suggesting a modern day setting, really to western developers, because eastern ones have done so already.

Native american mythology would be sooo awsome. But all of those settings are actually fairly awsome. The CRPG genre really has been stuck in generic fantasy and scifi territory as of late, is not it?
