Poll: Unearned Badges

Since I became a member of The Escapist, I have received a number of badges, most earned, some not. Mb im just new here, but has anyone else had this "problem"? If so, what are they? Most of my unearned badges are from watching X episodes of Y. Now, I'm all for free stuff, but I would feel better about if I had actually earned them.

No badges are really earned. Maybe the contest ones but i have none of them. The best is the xbox or steam sign in ones. I did fuck all for them

I haven't been a member here for very long so the concept of these badges is new to me, sort of.

Do you mean that you never watched X episodes of Y and still received a badge for it? Or simply that you don't think every little thing you do needs to be rewarded with a bagde?

A fair few, mainly the video ones. But some, I've worked hard to earn. Like the Morpheus Badge... ;D

I think the point of those isn't to mark an achievment but to tell people that
I have a xbox live and steam account.

I mean that, periodically, i will receive a badge for watching X episodes of Y when I've never even watched a single episode.

I got a bunch of badges for watching shows I never watched.

I think it counts the number of times you open a page, not the episodes you've actually sat and watched.

Well, at least its not just me. You think someone would have fixed this by now though... or, at least given you a chance to be honest, like enabling you to report an unearned badge.

i will admit the watching of episodes x of y can be obsessive but it sort of shows if you are starting to have a problem like watching 53 episodes of unskippable

2 i got the terminator one from genre wars i never understood how to play and ive only played a few battles so i couldn't have earned it

and the laser cat one from watching all 26 episodes of doomsday arcade and there are only 24 episodes released so far

Meh, i dont really care about the badges, but if you have the morpheous or Neo ones i know your not a massive idiot who actually deserves some respect...

I think badges are fun... however not getting one for something you have done is quite annoying.
I.e watching a certain amount of shows or reading from the newsletter and I still don't have them -.-

I got a badge for playing Genre Wars way way after i stopped playing. The only badges i'm that bothered about are my Contributor and Honorable Mention badge.

Its always a nice surprise when I get awarded a new badge though, i still secretly want to the harder to get badges, ie Neo and Forum Infero.

I can see why people want to get them so much, I'm content with my current ones though, lets people know that if they were so inclined, they could get to know me outside the big E here.

Weren't there two preview episodes aswell?

Not that I can recall. Genre Wars badges were glitched, so I didn't unlock a few of them until I logged on and BOOM, there they were.


I earned that Mudkip badge, though. I was either the 1st or 2nd person to 100% the quiz, iirc.

I think that I recently got a few for random content watching (some of which I don't recall, but meh). The only one that I truly earned was my shiny gold medal for playing that flash game until my wrist hurt.

And the victory was sooo sweet.

Nope, I haven't been given a badge that I didn't "earn" yet. I kinda hope it doesn't happen though. My badges give me a small feeling of accomplishment and I don't want an unearned badge tarnishing it.
