A couple of weeks ago, I was awarded one for Genre Wars (Terminator - "Crush your enemies!") that I'm certain I didn't legitimately earn. I fought all of two or three battles, and only actually won one of them.

I think that you earn your badges one way or another. It is all for kicks and giggles anyways so I can't see how you can have 'not' earned unless you hacked the system which would just be evil.

Not really. All of my badges have been earned by myself over time, though there has been quite a few glitches resulting with me earning badges early, such as Game Noir and Game Over for two content badges. A lot of them were hard to get, but I can say that I have deserved them.

You only need to win one battle to earn Terminator. As long as you eliminate all of your enemy's units in a single battle, you get the badge. Because of this, you don't need to be overly good as long as you're very lucky.

and the laser cat one from watching all 26 episodes of doomsday arcade and there are only 24 episodes released so far
Kind of similar to what baggyn said; there was a glitch in the award system for that badge. The badge was set for when you watch 26 episodes, but they forgot about the three previews that they had at that point, so the system counted it as 26 episodes wgeb back then there were only 23 actual episodes back then.

I got a badge for playing Genre Wars way way after i stopped playing. The only badges i'm that bothered about are my Contributor and Honorable Mention badge.
- Decimator - See them driven before you!

That one? There was a glitch with the award system for that one where noone had earned it yet for some reason. As it turned out, lots of people had earned it and the system just wasn't awarding them for it, so Delmar Wynn ended up having to hand them out himself like crazy to the users who had earned it, even if they had stopped playing Genre Wars by that point. As a result there was a lot of confusion over that badge and the one following it in the set (Annihilator) as people who were no longer playing Genre Wars had suddenly gotten a badge for it.

LOL unearned from watching unskippable. i understand maybe after a certain numbers but once the video and badges piled up it almost like one of those "everyone wins" awards given to the kids who could arts and crafts their faces to the paper. don't get me wrong, I still love watching Unskippable and the other vids. but maybe criteria would be nice with a change of pace as to how the ball rolls.

I have maybe earned one badge. It was a video watch X amount of Y badge, but I have earned so many of those in the past months that I forgot what the name of it was.

I'm thinking more along the lines of, "Why do I have 112+ people adding me on their friends list and still no Cyber Celeb badge?" and even then I wouldn't be as upset about it if it wasen't such a big milestone.

Have any of them since removed you as a friend? In order to get the badge at least 100 people must have you on their friends list at the same time.

Also if you've only been added by over 100 people today then you will need to wait for about half a day until the servers reset themselves (usually happens around 10am UK Time, or 4am US Time... I think). That when the majority of badges get handed out, namely the ones that the system hands out (including the befriending badges) instead of the ones which are given out by the editor (these ones are more like having a comment published or the Thanks! badge or just random badges given out to staff like OMG Pony!!1).

Otherwise I don't know why it's not sending you the badge. Best hope is to talk to the Tech Team [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/chat/Tech-Team] about it.

Actually, I got my 100th addition to a friends list in Febuary and I currently have 112 people on my friends list. Out of those 112, 3 never added me back, around 4 accounts were banned and I still have one person who has me on their friends list, but not vice-versa. Thos are the numbers that I know of.

Point is, that even after deducting the number of people who never added me back and the people who were banned, I still have 106 people who added me as a friend. I don't know why the Badge refuses to appear, but it just doesn't want to show and I have no idea why.

I think that badges are just something you get to show what you do on the escapist. Now some you do earn. I know for the quizzes, you have to know and take them to get the badge. Badges for milestones or accomplishments, if your form posts or if you have been a contributor, are ones that you have to earn. Those are things to show that you put time and effort into certain things. There are other things to that really aren?t so much earned, as they show your interest. If you watch so many of one type of video or if you read certain reviews, badges just are there to show others that that is something you do when online. It is not necessarily earned through hard work, but it is something to show that you watch the stuff and that is what you do. Even with this entire earning thing aside, badges are just fun things to get. It is kind of cool to look in your inbox and see that you earned a badge for an accomplishment. It is like a nice pick-me-up that just makes you happy for a bit. It is just a way of the escapist website rewarding you for being with the escapist, and it is always nice to get presents whether it is a good or bad day. Badges show you have accomplished something, and it is a nice reminder to yourself of what you did.

Ya, a lot of people got Game Over before it was supposed to even be possible to get them.
