I don't see whats so bad, I've got to wear a balzer, white shirt, tie with 'year' coordinated colours (Year 10+11 = blue and Maroon stripes), 'charcoal' trousers, black shoes (no boots), no buttons undone, no shirt untucked, no socks other than black, no hair touching the collar, no piercings 'cept one stud in ONE ear, no hats/gloves/scarves, no hoodies and any coat worn (outside of school hours) must be in 'sombre colours'.

But I'm in a grammar school so hey gotta accept it. You've got a good deal, my uniform (not incl sports kit) is like £100 or so (if your Blazer is high end and the crest is already on (not iron on)). The sports kit, and P.E. kit are seperate and strictly monitered; more cash needed.

Not that I'm complaining, no hardship for me, I'm not trendy or cool so I don't have a burning desire to untuck my shirt or undo the top 3 buttons on my shirt.

you get it good compared to me and i had it good compared to the school down the road since in my senior years i had the option of
a skirt that came to my ankles or a skirt that came to half way up my thighs
a light blue long sleeve blouse or a short sleeve blouse and a tie
choice of a sweater or blaser or or raincoat or neither
and shadow coloured stockings or pantyhose
and black dress shoes

all sold by the school with the school crest for absurd amounts of money
though one really really fat guy got to wear his own pants because the school didn't make pants in six million extra large but some of the staff was pretty lax about it still had to wear it just the state didn't matter too much feel lucky you didnt have to wear a uniform fow as long as you have the parents at my old primary school voted it in a couple of years after i left and my brother got caught in the phase in year

My school is a public school and recently they implemented an extremely strict dress code that everyone calls a "Uniform" even though its not.
Rundown of the Code:
-Collared or turtleneck shirts
-Shirts tucked in plus belts
-kahki pants only
-no hair that can obstruct vision ie. bangs that cover an eye, ect.
-only top button allowed undone
-skirts are allowed, and jumpers
-No hoodies or jackets inside school or referal
-1 warning for dress code violation
-No hats allowed
-No clothing with a logo of any kind outside of the school logo are permited on any clothing

My public school had a full uniform, so there's not really much sympathy you can get from me here, lol. You call yours strict? The only customisation we had was a short or long sleeved white dress shirt and a variety of school ties that could be earned, lol. Clean shaven, hair above collar, no clothing other than the uniform, dress code enforced even on the way to and from school! So yeah, weird that your school hasn't gone all the way for a uniform, as what you've got is more than a 'dress code', really.

I don't see how uniforms would've helped in that situation.

It helps the teachers recognise the intruders and catch them before they cause trouble and they know to alert the police.

Defeatist. If you just say get used to it, it won't change anything. That's what disappoints me so much. People just don't try to make a change. Saying "Get over/used to it" and that kind of crap...If you don't care, let those that care make the decisions.

Anyway, since I've been to a school that has uniform for two years and my future schooling isn't going to change that I've gotten used to it.
I'm assuming you live in the US so I understand that it might be a new concept for you but all I can really say is that it's not that bad.

The dresscode in my schools has been around for years, i'm in my school clothes now. I was just asking a question about dress codes in schools and used my own as an example

My Dress code is
Uniform (Green Poloshirt, Green Sweatshirt, Green Polofleece (excuse spelling), Navy Blue Socks and Pants.
Scarves and Hair Clips etc allowed if Green, Black or Blue.

That's all I can think of for now, I know, not that strict.

I live in the UK, where -for the majority of people- wearing a uniform has been the norm throughout their time at school. For all three schools I've attended (first, middle, highschool) we've been instructed to wear black/grey pants or skirt, shirt/polo top, tie (high and middle school only) and a jumper with the school logo on it. Pretty simple, in first and middle school they were a bit more strict about hair colour etc but in highschool as long as it wasn't too outrageous, they didn't mind.

I can see people's argument about individuality being destroyed by these uniforms, but you mentioned the less well-off students; Is it not easier for them to wear the same uniform 5 days a week than attempt to afford 5 different outfits a week? It also helps to stamp out bullying because of "uncool" brands/bad tastes in clothes etc. Sounds ridiculous, but it happens; especially in middle school. It's also much easier to just be able to throw on your uniform in the morning rather than worrying about what clothes to wear.

However, I do agree that a strict dress code can be very very irritating; since I started 6th form we're allowed "smart office wear" and the teachers can be very temperamental about what exactly this consists of. All of the teachers also seem to allow different things, so it's just a pile of shit and if they were going to make this fuss they might as well of kept us in a uniform!

The school implimented the dress code for boost public image and to help decrease the occurence of bullies on students with economic problems.

How would that help? Sure the kid whose family has less money won't look shabby, but now he has to shell out more for a uniform. And a bully will always be a prick no matter what, the damn bullies will make fun of him regardless of what he wears.

These are relatively extreme compared to my secondary school. (I now go college.)

I used to have to wear;
Black shoes
Black trousers

Navy blue polo and Navy blue sweatshirt.(Exclusively bought from the school.)[footnote]Why they are the same colour I won't know![/footnote]

Its been over 2 years, they keep adding more and more to the code and are getting stricter and stricter with everything.

The other day one person got send to ISS for being turned in his seat, Another two for talking, and another for giving the teacher her papers back for being out of line. All of this in the first five mintues of school. They've also restricted the time we can use our lockers so half the people carry all their school supplies with them all day.

Quick question,what country are you in? because im in England and my school is even worse =_= . My school makes us wear pants,jumper and tie with their logo on them. White shirts only, no hair dies, we HAVE to have our top buttons done up, we can only have black OR white socks, we cant have piercings or anything. The list could go on...
(worst thing is, they got rid of "non-uniform day" and replaced it with a "jeans day"!!

I live in america and they changed out Casual day into jeans day... and now there making use pay money for these days or participate in a Raise the most money for the school fundraiseres in order to win one of these days for our grade

At the high school I teach out the kids have to wear uniforms. The high school that I attended however didn't. I can see pros and cons for both and really don't have a strong opinion either way.

Is it possible for you to change schools or are you in your last year or so?

I can change schools since I live in the border but this school is the best.. The other is filled with fights and gang like activities, because they take in kids from the city. Their education standards are also a tad lower so my future would be better off sucking it up and staying here

Its not a private school its a public school, you know one funded by the state. Most people can't really switch from public, although I can since I live on the border of two states but this is actually the better school

Look mate, In England 99.99% of Schools have a strict, set uniform, so don't complain.
Until Sixth Form in most cases; then you just have to wear a suit...

So perfect uniforms came as part of the package. I was almost forced to shave my mustache to the point I was suspended untill I shaved it. Then a teacher grew one for charity and they lost their argument :{D.

OT: Sucks, but us Brits already have to put up with that crap so good luck on trying to beat it. At my school many have tried and many have been exspelled.

EDIT: Also Blazers are normal uniform regardless of gender in a dodgey shade of green.

As you've now realised it's much worse in Britain and we've tried. We really have to 'get rid' of uniforms and we've haven't achieved anything, so although it's wrong you've just got to suck it up and pray it Americar doesn't follow the British lead.
