Violence can be tied to anything that can give off emotion. Films, anime, music... these things can give off even more feeling than games depending on the person. You'll have to have a world similar to that film Equilibrium if you want to stop it.

I don't think videogames make people violent they were just violent to begin with. Violent people like violent games, non-violent people like non-violent games. If a non-violent person plays a violent game they usually want to stop and don't like the game. It doesn't corrupt them and make them think it's ok. Of course people who like violent games aren't all going to become serial murders either.

Short Answer: No.

Long Answer:Ah, I will try to answer this question scientifically while minimizing the advertising. Check out the book "Grand Theft Childhood", it's written by a couple of parents who work in the field of psychology (take a moment and imagine what it would be like to have those parents...okay, moving on). So, they got into the subject of video games and violence because of the Columbine Massacre (may they rest in peace) and the fact that their child enjoyed video games. Being responsible parents and true scientists, they decided to find the answers for themselves. Their answers will surprise you. They even find the flaws in the reports which blame video games for violence (I bet you heard that those kids played a lot of video games, right? WRONG! If I remember right, video games were only mentioned twice in the report. The first was one of the kids mentioning that he had played Donkey Kong or something one time and the other was a statement from a classmate commenting on the fact that it was odd that the shooters didn't play videogames. Like I said, it's interesting.)

OT: Is that okay or should I edit to avoid advertising?

The Alan Titshmarch Show incident alone proved that video games aren't to blame, its ignorance towards a new form of media.

Video games are not the cause of violence, but in some instances it can have an effect.
Afaik, there is still no proof of those two statements. What kind of effect are you talking about? A negative one, i.e. people getting violent more often, or a positive one, i.e. people getting violent less often? Both have been observed by studies. The only thing really 'proven', I think is the effect of fast racing games on how you drive cars in real-life - for about 15 minutes after you've turned off the game, after that, it's over again.
