So, as you may or may not be aware, Transformers: War for Cybertron came out a few days ago. There was hardly any marketing, and nobody seems to really be talking about it.
I just thought I'd make a thread to let all you who haven't played it before know how amazing this game is, and a place for people who have played it to discuss it.

Anyway, if you haven't played it, imagine if Call of Duty 4 and Team Fortress 2 had a baby, and that baby was in third person and had giant robots.
WfC asks you this: What if the spy could heal teammates and transform into a jet? What if the soldier could place dispensers? If the scout had a sniper rifle?

And if you can change their weapons around, and give them perks, just like CoD4. There's even the 3-5-7 kill streaks like CoD4. (Though they do different things for different classes)

I think the developers did a lot of the similarities on purpose (Activision made CoD4, and was also involved in making WfC), but I don't blame them, because it WORKS. It's fun, highly replayable, and action packed.

Anyway, just wanted to let people know that if you're looking for a new, unique, and awesome shooter, I highly recommend Transformers: War for Cybertron.

To add discussion value, if you've played, what's your favorite class and setup?
I like to use the soldier with the scrapmaker (mini-gun) and the ammo beacon. It's basically a dispenser, but instead of health and ammo, it gives a damage buff and ammo. Set your perks to give you better aim, and you can basically just out-damage anyone who you meet. The scrapmaker is basically designed to take on multiple enemies, so you basically become an instant badass.

TLDR: Cool game. Vote for your favorite class in the poll, and tell me why/what setup in the comments. As well, discussion about anything related to the game is fine.

I'm not entirely sure yet. I thought I'd be best suited as a Soldier and maybe it's the way I play but in my hands they seem more fragile and less capable than the Scientist, whom I am quite adept with in vehicle mode.
But playing as a Leader with War Cry or battle Shout or whatever, that was pretty cool too.

Gun to my head I'd say Scientist, I just play it as a Shock and Awe.

Sounds good, which is a difference for transformer games. Just as long it doesn't suck completely like the last few trandformer games

I will say this though; Multiplayer has some nasty connection problems. More often than not I'll get into an Escalation game and then not spawn. The enemies know I'm there, they'll constantly attack some invisible section of the map but my camera is locked at the top of the map and I can't do anything but quit.

Also, occasionally the connection to host is lost for no reason. but when it works it's great.

I love War For Cybertron. They have so many references to the 1980's show that it made me feel like a kid again watching it. In my opinion the story is pretty good. I find it interesting how The Decepticon and Autobot campaigns tie into one another.

It would have been nice if they designed a level where Omega Supreme and Trypticon fight.

H-okay *deep breath* it's time to really say what I feel about this game. So, without further adeiu...

[RANT]
I'm a long time Transfan. I was born in 86, two years after transformers really came into being and the same year as the movie that I grew up watching over and over and over and over. I've played just about every transformers game that has come out, and this game is the kind of thing I've been waiting a lifetime for. And this game didn't disappoint...much. The story told before the transformers ever left cybertron is amazing. To see and play with and as Megatron, Starscream, Optimus, and Bumblebee, younger and more innocent versions of themselves, is refreshing to say the least. Optimus was tough and optimistic, Bumblebee was eager and naive, Megatron was maniacal and yet altruistic, and Starscream still believed in more than just bumping off Megatron to rule the galaxy. I finished the story in one day, but it's easily a two day affair, and while not the most replayable game, it was certainly fun the first time and fun every time I replayed it.

But what I was really excited about, and subsequently disappointed with, was the multiplayer. See, I kept up with all the hype, all the updates. I tracked this games progress from the first leaks to the day it was released. And I understood that

so as a sniper myself, I was fascinated by the possibilities. A scientist jet with a sniper rifle could squeeze off a round and then fly off to a new vantage point. A solder sniper could get off several shots without fear of being discovered because of his endurance. Alas, all the talk of customization in multiplayer was just that: talk.

There are four classes, Soldier, Scientist, Scout, and Leader. Most of them have multiple selectable chassis to choose from, from the personas of autobots and decepticons to the grunts you slagged your way through in the campaign. They can be colored, although the colors are divided into an autobot color palette and a decepticon palette. So there are no purple autobots or red decepticons.

As far as weapons go, your choices there are also limited. Each class gets access to only four weapons. Scouts get a shotgun, two precision weapons, and a chargeable cannon. Soldiers get four heavy weapons, Rocket launchers, miniguns, the like. Scientists get two smgs and a healing ray that also damages enemies. But these are the only options they have. You can pick up an enemies weapon after you frag them in game, but that is the only way for a scientist to get a sniper rifle, or a scout to pick up a minigun.

Abilities are the same way. Each class has so many abilities to choose from, but all abilities are exclusive. Only scouts can cloak, only leaders can warcry, only soldiers can use whirlwind. And while that makes sense, I was promise customization, and I want to know why my scientist can't cloak and them fly around the sky like an invisable eye.

This was my major disappointment in the game. While it doesn't seem like much, and don't get me wrong, I still love it to death, I had such high hopes and then found out that I couldn't do any of them. But that aside, I still think it's a great game worthy of being in everyones collection. And that comes from a totally unbiased and impartial opinion.

[/RANT]

However, in answer to the OPs question, I'm a scout. Long live the snipers!

Isn't that the point of classes? I think a scientist with a sniper rifle would be ridiculously over-powered. The whole point of a sniper is that they're powerful at range, but weak in close quarters. If they'd given the scientist a sniper, he could just fly across the map in 2 seconds and kill the person who was trying to attack him. Plus, he got a zoomed 3 round burst rifle thing, that works pretty well.

I never could get into playing as the leader. I think I just don't like the weapons. If they gave him the assault rifle (I think it's called the neutron somethin' or other) rather than the SMG, he'd be good, or maybe a shotgun. He's got the worst vehicle, too.

I know, wasn't that in the trailer?

Oh, and I lol'd at the boss battles. "SHOOT THE GLOWING THING!"

Yes, I understand that, and that was why I was looking forward to it, because I'm a sniper and I will take any advantage I can get. However, why doesn't a leader get a minigun? The warcry with the high DPS could be devestating, or a soldier with a healing ray would make a great frontline healer.

Point is, and I'm sorry if this sounds and very well is petty on my part, that they stressed the customization in multiplayer, and when I played it, it just wasn't there.

That part I agree with. They kind of over-hyped the customization. (Though I liked how you could change rigs/colors/perks) Unfortunately, you're limited to 4 weapons per class, a couple of which are shared. However, some of the weapons shouldn't be shared among classes. I think it's for the best that the scientist is the only one that can use the medigun repair bay.

Scientist.

Why? Because Starscream's been my favourite since I was 6, that's why!

I'm just abusing the hell out of him before people find out about his disguise ability.

I have a ton of fun with multiplayer. My favorite is the scientist even though I'm abysmal with it. The customization is a slight disappointment and the obvious on disk DLC is mildly annoying (I've seen videos of people using hacked or something Zeta Prime and Deadend on the 360 version, if anyone wants a link to the video I can get it) and of course the other 2 pre-order characters will probably be DLC too like the GoW skins. But the gameplay is fun enough that those don't bother me much. I kinda wish there was more map variety though, as much fun as the maps are with two versions each in most cases, I'd love to see some more unique maps.

Also can any class get a repair ray if they kill a scientist that is using one and then pick it up? Or do they not drop them? That's one thing I like about the game at any rate, being able to pick up and refill ammo on any weapon until you die. Because it means I can get the nullray as a scientist.
Trick with the scientist is to not charge into the battlefield. Scientists are way too fragile. Oh, sure, heal your teammates if you're close by, but it's more effective just to use teammates as a distraction. Get a shotgun or the assault rifle and use your flight abilities to fly behind enemies who are shooting your friends. Melee does tons of damage in this game, so get those in if you can, and you should be able to take down your enemies without you or your teammates getting killed. Your teammate might be injured, since you used them as a distraction, but that's why you have the healing capabilities.
Wash, rinse, repeat.

EDIT: At least that's how I play him. Works even better if you're disguised.

And I'm going to disagree with you there as well, although not arbitrarily. The "Repair Ray" doesn't strike me so much as a "Repair" ray as much as it resembles the link gun from Unreal Tournament(Whose engine this game also uses. Fancy that). When pointed at a friendly, it heals them, when pointed at an enemy, it harms them. Took me a bit to figure that out since I kept dying from it. But In that capacity, I think they should all have access to it.

I occasionally snipe and when I run out of ammo for my rifle I switch to KILLING WITH LOVE, IE: Killing my enemies with the healing ray and sentries because my team never manages to sit still long enough for me to heal them.
I've never really been good at killing with the repair bay. I dunno why, I'd just prefer a shotgun.

I'm oddly good at it. Then again my enemies never seem to realize I'm not there to heal them until it's too late.
Heheheheheh... That combined with disguise could be deadly.

*Looks at Alpha Protocol* I think I made the wrong choice here.

OT: It seems like a pretty cool game. I've got a lot of encourgement to go buy it, but hey, the lure of a Spy RPG was probably a little too much for of a lure.

It also helps that if you spawn a sentry while disguised it looks like the opposing faction's sentry too. Confuses the fuck out of some people. Also, as good as the shotgun is, the rifle actually makes a pretty good weapon when not sniping still. Sure it doesn't have the power of the shotgun but still it's good to soften people up if you're going for challenges or trophies. Also sniping people in jet form is really easy for some reason.
I can NEVER get kills in the jet! I always get... well... hit markers. The only vehicle I can actually kill with is sniping with a tank. Anyway, does the sentry still shoot enemies, even when you're disguised?

WfC isn't getting the credit it deserves. The price'll probably go down soon. Hell, I got it 4 days after release, and used it was already down 10 bucks.

Well, as said in the OP, it wasen't really advertised much and Alpha Protocol was something that a lot of people were looking forward to. Myself included.

Unfortunatly, it was done very poorly and I kinda wish I had bought WfC.
