I played WoW for a year and personally i liked Warcraft 3 more, simple because it involved most of the back story which made WoW what it is.

I remember seeing this massive undead dragon called sapphiron in one of the old raids.
When i played Warcraft 3 though, i saw sapphiron get killed and resurrected as an undead dragon skeleton. I found it interesting to see the history of the game.

Without Wc3 and the rich story behinf it (I'm a lore jockey) I would of never started WoW, seeing the ghostly fleet of sailors that Arthas doomed was one of the biggest lore-gasm moments ever.
Yeah that was nostalgic, and awesome at the same time to see the story in a different perspective. Personally I like the Frostmourne cave part more!
Bah...I quit WoW and they finally start using back stories and lore again. Bugger.
Yeah the story was what got me to start WoW initially, and then quit in BC at 70 just because I got sick of grinding for an epic mount. My friends tried convince me to get Wrath by telling me that there are much more story elements, but I still wasn't sure. Then they told me there is a really great quest at level 75 involving the WC3 heroes and the advancement of the original plot (I don't know much details about it but I won't say any more, just in case of spoilers), I was sold.

I've been playing Warcraft 3 on and off since its release way back in.. whatever year it came out. (2002?) The gameplay was great, the story was great, and it was an altogether superb experience, my second favorite RTS of all time (Homeworld 2 woo!).

WOW... bleh. I've played the trial. It was repetitive and forgettable.

I played World of Warcraft almost a year ago. It was more out of curiosity than anything else. It was cool to go around and explore the world in great detail, but ultimately lost interest.

It's a great for what it is, but it just wasn't my kind of game. There nothing to really motivate me further in this world, where everyone just stood around waiting for you to do menial chores for them. I've still kept the actual games, as they are Collector's Editions, and the soundtracks are beautiful, the documentaries intriguing, and the artbooks stunning. Then I got the Warcraft III CE, and fell in love with it immediately.

Well, I loved Warcraft III, and I love WoW.

But it's hard to compare the games. They're two completely separate genres. It's like comparing apples and oranges.

However, Warcraft III gave me far more enjoyment than WoW does, even though I don't play Reign of Chaos anymore. WoW is fun, but never will be as fun as Warcraft III.

Also, Warcraft III's story is far superior. Since it has one.

The way warcraft 3 inspired so many modders is amazing, with wow you simply cannot do this. Wow is an O.K game, but I tend to get sick of it quickly, whereas with WC3+expansion+mods I can't see myself ever completely dropping the game.
From the mod community alone Warcraft 3 has influenced me more.

Warcraft III is a masterwork of its genre, as is World of Warcraft. I know both are excellently-crafted experiences, but frankly I am just not a fan of the MMO, or most multiplayer at all for that matter. I think Warcraft III might be a better-honed sort of game, as well, if only because its smaller size allows for more precision and control on the part of the developers.
I'm the same, only opposite ;)
I prefer MMO to RTS (I play RTS occasionally for multiplayer, but rarely do the campaigns).

But I own both and recognise both as excelling in their respective fields.

its hard 2 choose, because WOW is the most sucessful MMORPG and there r millions of people playing, but also warcraft 3 was a great game, with the story the gameplay so its very hard 2 choose just one, i love both WOW for just being WOW, nd WC III for dota.

Warcraft III is so much better. Not only was the SP gameplay fucking amazing but the multiplayer is great for LANs. Plus, you get to actually do all the stuff that WoW is based off, take over BT, Strat, see Grom kick Pitlord ass and so on. The only disapointing thing about is that Blizz didnt have enought time to make the Arthas Vs. Illidan fight into a cinematic.
