WASD, All of the other keys for reloading, changing weapon, flashlight, open doors etc, crouch, walk, prone and EVERYTHING else and be reached while you are moving, if you use the arrow keys reaching the space bar to jump isn't the easiest of tasks.

I'm forced to use WASD. Due to an accident some odd years back, my right hand is a little screwed up, so working the arrow keys is a little tricky. Right hand works fine with a mouse, at least.

WASD.
I used to rebind keys onto the numberpad, but i got sick of doing this for EVERY game. so i tried WASD. I occasionally go back and rebind to the numberpad but i usually change it back after an hour or two...

I'm a righty if that makes ant difference...

I used too, I found it easier a long while ago to have everything on the numpad, while I had specials on the arrows and on the... what do you call that block of keys above the arrows with insert, delete, end, page down, page up, home on it?

In any case I made the switch a few years ago as I was annoyed at using other peoples set ups, at having to reconfigure all the time and what not. It also does seem more natural, I can spread the keys out so I don't have to worry so much about cramped fingers... I have spider like digits instead of fingers.

Being able to touch type helps a lot...

Mine rests on shift naturally, which I often rebind to crouch cause I understand standing there firing in FPS is just stupid when you want to hide behind cover and most games have shift bound to sprint with the further away control being the crouch button. Even when typing it rests on shift, but then all my fingers 'run' across the keyboard, never really was one for that while asdf jkl; set up.

My brain, she wired wrong....

I don't see the point of using ESDF unless you've actually broken you W key!

End of, no one really uses keys that are hard to reach. And your little finger now rests on the Windows key, AKA That Key That Boots You Out And Gets You Killed (Unless you have one that can lock it, or have prised the little fucker off).

Got the same amount of useful keys around, in the immediate vicinity also, and maybe now A... but that's not exactly an easy key to reach, much like X on WASD... merely annoying.
No. Your pinky rests on 'A.'

At least when I do it, it's my combat stance anyway. Maybe on shift now and then, or maybe it's just my hand, but keeping it on 'A' is natural for me.
You must use it nearly vertical, and not wishing to sound too much like the HSE but that's not going to be good in the long term!
Meh. My wrist is supported well. Keyboard is usually on my lap...And my fingers are usually curved a bit instead of straight up or straight out.

I'm left-handed, so WASD pisses me off endlessly - especially if I need a Mouse as well.

I used to use arrow keys a long long time ago, once I switched to wasd there was no going back. Besides how would I now get the 10 or so bindings I generally need around the arrow keys? Doesnt make much sense to me (oh and I only use mice with 5+ buttons).

I used to use arrow keys when playing DOOM (before I switched to mouselook) and games on VisualBoyAdvance/No$GBA (now I have a DS), but now I use WASD and I use my mouse with my right hand. In Halo: Combat Evolved on PC I all my other keys are located around the WASD keys for convenience, and space to jump as usual

Mostly WASD, espicialy shooters, though i do use arrows occaisionaly for racing games where the faster reaction time right hand is needed.

WASD, It's easier on my hand, there's more buttons nearby for easy access to secondary functions, and it leaves my right hand free to operate the mouse. WASD, FTW.

WASD for me.

I'm old enough to have been around for the advent of FPS games and I've used arrow keys for a long time. In fact, I've spent years keyboard turning in FPS games (no mouse). Yes kids, once upon a time that was quite viable, at least in single player. I was young and foolish...

The whole thing changed when I came to one of my first LAN parties and sat down to play Quake 2. One of the older players saw me with both hands on the keyboard, got up, came over and didn't leave until I accepted to play with a mouse. At first, circle strafing, mouse aiming and using letters instead of arrows was a cultural shock to me, but I rolled with it since I was suddenly able to hit a moving target. Fast forward a decade, and I'm a die-hard WASD user, as it should be ;)

ESDF is also viable (and arguably superior), but I'm a traditionalist and stick to WASD.
