Hi Escapist Magazine! Lately I've been wondering what kind of anti-virus software the Escapist community uses so, yeah, I've created a pool.

Anyway, because I had a limited number of pool options I chose to restrict the numbers of pools to free anti-virus software as they're the most popular and used ones. But don't feel discouraged to not vote for the 'Payed ones' option.

For Mac users who vote it would be awesome if you could share with us what kind of anti-virus software you use and why.

EDIT: I've been dumb enough to forget linux users. Just post instead. :p

So again, what kind of software you guys use to protect yourselves?

If you're interested in knowing more about these software, visit cnet for more info.

I use Avast on my home computer; at work we sell NOD32 - seems the best paid one to me.

1/ A Windows XP with no protection
2/ A Mac with no protection

I never had any issues with either computer, and I have that Windows XP running for over 7 years now. All it takes is being aware of what you're doing when browsing and reading mails. Don't just download and execute anything you didn't initialize yourself, and know the sources you do download from.

Hmm, if I remember correctly, Spybot is not a heavy anti-virus software so I would recommend you installing some other as well along side it. It'll not be considered hostile by a anti-virus.

I have Sophos anti-virus. My university has a corporate license for it, hence all students/staff/faculty can get it for free (but technically it's paid for.) Prior to that, I used AVG, which was all fine and dandy until it decided to start eating my system's paged pool memory one day.

My anti-software is a 64-bit copy of Windows Vista. Har har.

Anyway, I've used AVG for quite a while now.
