By the time the child is watching R rated movies, they can probably play an M game. That's my rule of thumb at least...

It's the parents job to decide whats good for their child not some random guys who apparently know what every child can or can't watch at certain age.

Back when my friends and i were ~10 stuff like Diablo, Warcraft 3 and Counterstrike/HL were hot topics and we all played them. Nobody was emotionally scarred because of some dead pixles-dudes and some fancy demons.

They can save as a guideline for parents which have totally no clue about the subject, though i think that parents should read up on the hobbies of their lil' buggers.

I can't say for sure because I don't have any kids but for one thing I WON'T let them play anything M online or probably not at all.

For all you people that say " oh it's fine if they don't have a mic." Where do you think they pick that stuff up from?!?! People act like bigger children then they are when something doesn't go their way. The crap that comes from " Oh it's that little kid cursing" comes from them hearing an "Adult" do it and the rest of adults in the room just laughing it up. M games are nothing more then the Big boys club because in about all of my games where I listen to people talking in public, there are very few I'd say acted like an adult.

Lastly parents need to grow up and grow a backbone when it comes to their kids. I have to be the girl on the other side of the counter that points out " This game is rated M and not meant for children for blah blah blah" and see the parent get shocked and say "oh he can't have it" to cue and Eric cartman form the kid. "But MOM! I played it at jimmy and they play it all the time" to get guilted in buying the game.

I wonder how quickly I'll get fired if I suggest they buy a Crack rock to because thy'll just do it at their friends anyway.

Also this behind the craft forum ad gets in the way of typing an even semi long post.

It depends on the individual.
I hit the roof with my brother because he lets my 9 year old nephew play COD and BF. They're probably not the worst games, but I don't think he should be playing it.
He mainly plays Fifa but he already has quite a violent temperament :/

Well, I certainly did, so I think it's hypocritical of me to say my kids couldn't. And it would also make me hypocritical when I argue against games causing violence.

I don't think they should have mics though. Not only does it bring out the good old 'don't trust anyone on the Internet' thing, but it really ruins a game for me when some kid is constantly talking through a match.

"I'm bored! Why aren't you healing me? Trade with me! Trade with me! YOLO!"

Parents should play with their children, that way they can ask questions about the morals of the in game world.

I played M games well before turning 18 so it would be a bit hypocritical to say they shouldn't... but really, they shouldn't.

I watched ALIENS and Highlander and a whole host of other R movies before I was out of the single digits...

What's the difference between that and play MK3?

I think their parents should sit down and play it for themselves first,
This is what I do, however I am fortunate because I play lots of games so checking a game out is no big deal. For parents that don't play games or wouldn't have a clue where to start its pretty daunting if not completely impractical.
