Poll: What Class Are You? Warrior, Mage, or Rogue?

I prefer the fighter class if done right, using your armour and weaponry smartly and applying proper tactics to overcome your foes, I also gravitate toward the paladin class because I just love playing the good guy.

alternatively, I play assassin, Oblivion pretty much forced my hand there, spells were a major hassle, warriors trade in their steel weaponry for what seems like Isolation foam tubes by level six, and assassins stayed viable for a pretty long time.

OT: I prefer to play the cleric, but the frail healing cleric, noooo. I play the cleric that charges in the fight and smashes the enemies ranks with his mighty weapons and spells.
So by the poll it would be Magi-Knight BUT I AM THE VOICES OF MY GOD AND THIS AXE WILL SPEAK IN MY NAME!!

I usually go for a fighter/mage combo. I love shooting fireballs but I also love the shiny armor and swords. If I have to choose only one of the two, it would usually be mage, but not always.

I tend towards a Rogue/Warrior combo, using stealth to approach the enemy and then barrel into them with as many crits as possible before they have a chance to strike back. Its surprisingly effective.

Spellblades ,sneakiness is nice but how to make it better? why not add magic? more of an oblivion thing then skyrim but I used to like making long duration D-O-T spells with touch and then sneaking up on targets to apply them. That or the other way around of using daggers damage but invisibility magic, basically I enjoy playing as glass cannons, so what if they are glass, to them, so are you and melee just makes it that much more dangerous.

If we're talking about some kind of D&D-based system, then I would have to go with a Fighter-type class with high persuasive skills/bonuses.

I find that most RPGs reward you greatly for having a high skill at talking people into submission. However, I tend to prefer the direct approach so I need to be able to kill anyone I meet just in case diplomacy fails.

Like I said in my OP, when you boil down every class - in pretty much any kind of RPG - it's essentially a caster, a "thief", or a fighter. But I do agree with you, I usually like having a good deal of points allocated to persuasion/charm. It generally leads to better outcomes in conversations and/or getting access to extra stuff in some cases.

Heh heh, I believe it's Fallout 2 where you can actually convince the main boss' bodyguards to turn against him and kick his ass for you if you have a high enough persuasive skill. :3

What exactly would you call a talky-fighter? There really isn't a widely accepted designation for that playstyle.

If it were up to me I would call him a Noble/Highborn Knight. Raised from birth to kill people with a sword and attend high society parties, doing both in style.

I don't know if that's an all inclusive title. The best Talky-Fighter I've ever played as was probably the City Elf Warrior I generated for Dragon Age: Origins. This was a kid who grew up in the ghetto-iest ghetto in the game-world. He was never really high-society to begin with, although he did have just enough points to mingle if he really had to.

Mostly I would use him to intimidate and murder people. Still, he came a long way by just being brutally honest and bloodthirsty.

However I'm more prone to healing spells, I am at my very purest. A paladin.

Anyways I like a Warrior, being able to use any weapon effectively gives much more versatility that being a rogue or mage. I mean rogues can't defend themselves in a straight up fight and once you close the distance or they run out of magic mages are screwed.

Yep, there wouldn't be enough poll options to name off every single possible playable class, that's why I just boiled everything down to it's core elements. Clerics can fight as well as use holy magic, so they equate to a caster/fighter combo which I dubbed "Magi-Knight".

It really depends on the game.

Multiplayer games I play a warrior, I really enjoy the tanking role there.

Single-player open-world games I play a rogue, I really enjoy being able to go anywhere and see everything.

Single-player linear games I play a mage, they generally have the most variety in skills and such.

Rogue. I tend to specialise in lockpicking and archery so I can get rich and avoid THE PAIN. Turns out that doesn't always work.

I love me a Magi-Fighter. Favorite classes in Final Fantasy are Dark Knight and Paladin. Paladin has plenty of Defense, some offensive ability, but also limited healing magic. Effectively, Paladins look at their enemy and dare them to kill them. Just try.

Dark Knights tend to have insane attack. And in some versions they can even use offensive magic, though not as powerful as the Black Mage. Others have powerful special attacks like in FFT. Gotta love the ability to attack and and restore your HP while you do so.

While I am a subject of all three I do like to play as a fighter with a bit of magic to boost myself. I like building myself up as a tank that can also do heavy damage but only when he is being attacked.

Also there is a certain charm to taking a massive load of damage and then scream "WHAT YOU GOT *****?! Is that all you can muster?! HIT ME! I DARE YO...*dead*"

It'll depend largely on the game, If it's feasible then I'll play a ranger, If rangers are under-powered at low levels (Like in ES:IV) then I'll play as a warrior.

Ranger/ Thief I love sneaking and killing things quietly or knocking them out.

However in a lot of games these classes are always overpowered/ under powered

I hybrid fighter/mage. I like the baddassery of having a sword bigger than the things you're swinging it at, and I also like fireballs. Also, the Mass Effect vanguards are covered by 'magi-knight' and Biotic Charge is deliciously OP. Of course, in a tabletop/pen & paper RPG I'll usually end up playing the face.
