Right now in my Law class we are talking about Euthanasia, and the Law which involves it. We have viewed a couple of cases so far, where Euthanasia has been the main thing. Such as Sue Rodriguez, who was a woman who was very, very ill and was unable to commit suicide. She wanted to die, she was unhappy with living. Her case was taken eventually to the Supreme Court of Canada where she was denied the right to die, a 5-4 split. Later an unknown physician did the job for her.

Another case which involved a man, I forget his name, killed his 12 year old daughter. He did it out of love though. His daughter was diagnosed with a very painful and extreme case of CP. She was in pain all the time, and it just continued to become worse. Finally, I believe he became fed up and decided she shouldn't have to be put through the pain of living. He put her in the back seat of his truck and pumped carbon minoxide into it. He was charged with 2nd degree murder and was imprisoned with life without parole until 10 years had passed. He just got out on parol last year.

I am personally 100% for it. I believe if a person feels that they want to end their life that the Government, nor anyone else should have the right to prevent that person from doing so. Not everyone should have to live in pain and anguish and noone has a right to say otherwise. It's not their choice. The same goes for families who have a very ill family member. I believe if there is nothing more they can do for said person, and that person is unable to make a decision for themselves that the family should have that choice to put an end to their life. I am in no way saying that this should be done lightly, or to any little problem. I'm saying that if the conditions are right they should be able to make this choice. This is all I will say for now, but I am certainly up for a friendly debate or adding to what I believe and why. I would certainly like to hear what others have to say.

If you want try to find their cases, (sorry I can't remember the name of the guy from the second one, if I saw it I would remember) I definitely suggest you look them up. There is definitely lots on both.

The question is what do you think about Euthanasia? Is it right in your opinon, or do you think it is morally wrong? Do you think that it should be legalized or stay illegal? Answer and explain, I think this could become a neat topic for conversation.

Call me what you want, but I really think quality of life has to be taken into account, and when people decide for their family members or people they have power of attorney over, I guess it's their personal choice. For instance, I agreed with the decisions made in the Terry Schaivo case.

I think it should be legal under certain strict circumstances.

It has to be clear beyond shadow of a doubt that the person wants to die, and is completely sane at the time. We can't have mentally unbalanced people just deciding such things spontaneously when there is plenty we could do to help them.

An age limit might be wise as well. It's hard to say if an 18 year old or a 21 year old is prepared to say that the rest of their life is worth it.

As far as seniors go, I'm all for ending your life the way you want to. I mean if you don't have the right over living, what else are ya left with? It shouldn't have to be done painfully or with the kind of stigma society attaches to life. After so many years of living, an elderly citizen will have plenty of wisdom to decide such a thing, providing the person is mentally stable.

I think euthanasia is just dandy. People want to die? Let them die! Just let them get their affairs in order and shoot them full of the Big Sleep juice.
Honestly, why does everyone seem to have such a hangup about death? Why do you people hate it so much? You think it's wrong for anyone or anything to die, it's such a load of bullocks. Death is as much a part of life as birth, yet birth is beautiful? Everything dies, it has to.

I don't think I made myself quite clear in my opinon on the matter. Or forgot to mention. If someone is ill and does not want to live I don't think the family should do it themselves, I believe a doctor or doctors should have to consult their history, how they are now, etc. If there is no chance then sure, do it. Or if it is the persons wish, then end their life. Or at least set something up which would allow them to do so.

I want euthanasia when I go out, seems like a nice, calm way to go, like I want it to be. I agree with it being a personal choice whether to end someone's life, like Terry Schiavo's case.

Against but there are cases when its needed. On second thought I'm probably more against suicide that Euthanasia.

People should be allowed to decide for themselves should they want to end their life. Particularly if they are suffering from a prolonged and mortal illness.

Yet you don't see psychotic people shooting up morgues; only crowded rooms.

I don't see what the big problem is. Would you want to live in constant pain 24/7 for the next 50 years?

No... I... Don't? Where exactly did the psychotic shooter thing come from? Was it something I said?

I SAY YAY 4 EUTHANASIA
Saywhat?
Euthanasia is not awesome, any more than abortion is. There is nothing inherently good about the freedom to put an end to one's misery. Euthanasia is the unfortunate end result of various fatal medical conditions. It's no more "good" or "wonderful" than amputating a gangrenous limb. It may be preferable to the alternative (lifetime in miserable pain, death as a result of said gangrenous limb, ruination of lives as a result of a child being born to an unprepared parent), but that in no way makes it a good thing.
Use your brains, please, people. Don't praise Euthanasia as some wonderful cure, because it's nothing of the sort. It's cutting your losses.

Because it is an end. You get one chance at life (Buddhists not withstanding) and that's it. I really detest seeing people just give up and throw it away. If someone has severe cancer, or a crippling lung problem, or is brain dead and on a ventilator, then it should be up to them.

When perfectly healthy people go into it like it's some kind of new Ikea lifestyle choice I am dead against it.
