MGS 2 easily the best IMO best stealth, interesting storyline and deep characters.

I'm actually playing through MGS 3 right now and it has the best bosses of any game ever, but the actual stealthy parts is somewhat lacking, oh and escorting EVA is the worst escort mission ever.

Oh, and there are people who liked MGS 4? Everybody who I've spoken to who's played hated it.

I'm sorry, but the idea of best music makes it lose to both three and 4.

I'm stiiiiiill in a dreeeeeeeeam, Snake Eateeeeeeeeeer.
In my defense: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DU6pZdl9AQc ^^, as i said, im not a big MGS fan, to be honest, i've found most of them to be quite boring, but this song is still one of the best video game themes i've ever heard.

I really like all of them but 4 is my favorite. Everything comes togethor in a rather astonishingly good way. Gameplay was vastly improved too. Lock-on targeting helped and the varied gameplay was awesome.
Plus, much to my delight, you finally get to pilot a Metal Gear.

I was tempted to say MGS:2 simply for the well for lack of a better term Mind-F***ery of the whole thing being a ..... spoiler ahead ... la le li lo lu ... simulation of the events that happened on shadow Moses Island and the game doing tons of Illregular audio/visual errors to random Codec Calls to altered Radar to telling you Seriously you've been playing for a while don't you think it's time to take a break?
But 4 wins cuase it again has a Psycho Mantis type event along with tying up all the loose ends and being excellent as well.

Metal Gear Solid Frisbee, its fun and easy you simply take any MGS game and throw it as far away from you as possible.

MGS3 tops the quadrilogy of options for me - 4 was amazing, granted, but was more of a one time experience, once the cutscenes are done there isnt enough game. I miss the codec calls about turd rockets and the bonus theater with naked raiden... ok maybe not so much that last bit but you get the idea.

MGS1 or preferably the remake The Twin Snakes. It show cased snakes best adventure with well used graphics that were a huge improvement over the original. The fights and stories are at there most epic. As good as MGS4 was (and it was amazing) without MGS1 we wouldn't have the epic story that MGS4 gave us. Because most of the plot of MGS4 was all based on stuff that happened in MGS1.

Actually, that sorta stuff is being delivered in a different way this time around. Check out some of the downloads the game has available (yes, for free -I don't mean the MGO expansion packs).
...? Is there a DLC pack ive missed somehow or do you mean the music, camo patterns and the whole 2 episode podcast series. If so thats just not the same.

Uh, the theme song was in the first one.

I have the original OST. OK so its a bit lower in production value but it is the same song.

To be fair, I'm not that much of a fan either, but as a musician the soundtracks are pure awesome.
