I don't see why everyone has so much hate for this game in general, especially for the new survivors. Why the hell would Bill, Francis, Louis, and Zoey, who live in Pennsilvania, escape the zombies in New Orleans. They already escaped the Outbreak there. Besides, people are already judging the games characters from a 1 minute teaser. Let's get to know them first before we decide to hate them. Who knows, they might even turn out to be much more likable than the original Survivors. Thank you.

I reckon it's deferred criticism of the first game, L4D wasn't everything we wanted, but it was awesome enough that we forgave it - temporarily. Now we discover all that stuff we'd hoped would be added in, is gonna be a whole new game that we will pay again for, and suddenly we don't feel like defending either game anymore, because each has let us down for not being the other.

*edit* The new survivors are fine, I hope L4D 3 has both in 8-player sandbox coop

These characters aren't stereo types much like the original 4? link me to your trailer, because the characters seem just as strong as their original 4 counterparts.

I don't like them that much. The thing with the old ones was that you instantly knew their personalities because they where direct stereotypes of what they where supposed to be.

These new ones was not so much of that. The guy talking in the beginning of the trailer sounded like some gangsta but all you saw was some fat man in a yellow shirt, can't really get his personality.
The others seem a bit the same except the one with the suit who seems to either be some poker player or just a generally rich person.

Then there is the girl and that guy who looks like the scout from TF2.

I do like the hill-billy mechanic. He mentions in one of IGN videos that he loves horses. Wonder if he'll be the antithesis of Francis.

EDIT: After learning more about the game like the characters personalities they started to grow on me with the exception of nick because I haven't actually heard any of his dialogue because Ellis and the woman who's name escapes me where just to loud, also the dark carnival is a night and the new special infected seem cool (like the Jockey)

I really like them actually; I think people throw so much hate on them because they're used to the witty dialogue between the Survivors in the original Left 4 Dead so when four new characters turn up with no witty dialogue as yet revealed people immediately go "wahh I want the new ones back". Even though they know very little about what the new ones.

Ellis seems annoying. More annoying than Louis.

Nick seems like he hates everyone and everything like Francis, but he doesn't seem as funny. It's like the difference between ribbing a friend of yours and just spitting in the face of a stranger.

Coach seems cool. He reminds me of Bill, being the oldest and most experienced member of the group. I like him the best so far.

Rochelle...I don't know really. I haven't seen much of her personality come through yet.

Without actually having played a campaign to get a feel for the characters, I can't really say.

I didn't feel anything about the L4D1 character just from looking at them in screenshots or brief little clips. I had to play and hear the dialogue system flesh out their personalities.

I'm reserving judgement until I play. I'm sure I'll find one to hate. I don't like Francis in L4D1 either.
