Gonna have to add my own option; the gladius. I mean, its Roman, so it automatically kicks barbarian ass.

I would chose the claymore.
And by that I don't mean the one with a metal blade.
I would tape a couple of claymores on a stick and wave at my enemies.
Best... Sword... EVER!

Whatever kind of sword is best described as "The sword of fuck you up". I imagine some sort of longsword.

Wait, in videogames? Depends entirely on the game system... In real life, I have most of my training in kenjutsu, but I tend to work better with a longer, heavier blade... so I prefer an o-katana... what I think I'd be best at actually taking down an armed opponent with, though, is a rapier. Unfortunately, the only fencing training I have was with a foil... so I've had to sort of improvise with classical fencing.

-to any fellow Wheel of Time fans... yes, that's a heron-mark blade on the bottom, but thanks to a secondary bevel to the edge and a complete lack of distal taper, I'm not fond of it as a functional cutter. It works, it's a real sword... but the design isn't quite as well thought out as my more traditional, purpose-built blades.

-that USMC Ka-Bar, I bought when I was twelve... long before I ever considered I may someday be a military man myself...

as to long, broad one-handers such as swords of the Oakeshott typology (longswords, broadswords, et cetera)... I've never been great with 'em... they're cumbersome to me. If I have that much blade in front of me, I feel slow without two hands on the hilt, widely spaced.

Hand and a Half or a Falchion.
A Falchion can double as an everday tool and weapon, which automatically gives it more points.

who needs a sword, when you could have a hammer?

I prefer an axe but if i had to choose... Kilij... so i guess that would be a scimitar, IDK i like to use circular motions when swinging a weapon especially when its heavy, once i get momentum I can get into a lot of techniques.

You realise a broadsword is the same as a bastard sword right?

Anyway I like the Zweihander, what's not to like about nearly 2 metres of sword?

Rapier, preferably with a nice long dagger in the off hand. I only know how to do stage combat with it, but that's cool enough already.

I know it's clichéd, but I'm gonna go with the katana from that list. I like fast weapons in games. Though I'd probably go for a falx [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falx] if you asked me what I'd choose.

And if this were real life and I actually had to use it (zombie apocalypse anyone?), I'd go with a shortened, top weighted poleaxe with a butt-spike. I could probably make one with stuff from B&Q, and I'm no good with swords anyway ;)
