Having naked women holding signs does not make me want to become a vegetarian. It makes me want to have sex with women. These aren't even close to the same thing. There's a joke about "my meat" in here, but I'm far too high brow for that.
"I bet they'd love to eat my meat"? "I'd make them reconsider their vegetarianism"? "I'd Show them my Meat and Two veg"?
I love being low brow.
Stay classy internet.

I think they're totally crazy hypocrites.

If that episode of Penn and Teller's Bulls!@$ is to be believed, They indirectly provide support for people to blow up animal research labs, kill of lots of animals that they take in, and some of their members use animal based products while denouncing others who do so.

Oh, and I find the goal of "total animal liberation" to be.....kinda silly. I mean, just how far does that go? Are you gonna stop OTHER animals from eating animals? how are you going to explain to the tiger that he's not allowed to eat that rabbit?

While I think your rank and file PETA members are simply ignorant and misguided, the leaders of the organization are terrible excuses for human beings. They fund domestic terrorism, oppose medical research on animals that has the potential to save human lives, and euthanize most of the animals they "rescue."

I'll say my opinion is generally negative.

Hell I have spent time wanting to scream into their faces things like "NO! The fact that you are trying to raise awareness of animal rights does not make the fact that you are shamelessly objectifying women okay!"
Mind you, I don't know any members of PETA (are there even any in Australia?), so I haven't had the opportunity.
would you actively protest peta?

Much as I may think they're a bunch of reprobates that have channeled the thoughts of a 14 year old pony fancier, they have done some good things in the past.

Honestly.

In 2002, they raided the Sinclair Research Centre and found massive cruelty to animals in the name of "science" for IAMS. IAMS saw the film and denounced the outside contractors.

So they CAN do some good, like Anonymous, but they're often blinded by the words of their illustrious leaders.

Rather like Greenpeace and others.

Good people with good ideas, lead by raving lunatics that need putting down.

"Misguided" covers it.

I personally think they are batshit insane.

If it was your average person in the street spouting off half of what they do then those lovely men in white coats would be handing out new fashion jackets that fasten up at the back.

As it stands people tend to overlook the fact they have the collective sanity of the Mad Hatter because they are part of PETA.

They do more harm than good. They are a pointless organisation, they quite literally serve no purpose.

Most people here agree with animal rights to an extent. Some of us have pets and wouldn't dream of harming them or treating them in a cruel manner...

However...

We also eat meat and I aint giving up my steaks because some mental fuckwit said so.

PETA my arse.

what's your opinion.

EDIT: any advice or input on how they can improve.

PETA, in my mind, is not truly an animal rights group. Rather, they do a very real and very active harm to the cause-- they make it look ridiculous. Their antics turn off people who might otherwise be very sympathetic to such a basic thing as treating animals with respect.

Every time PETA throws red paint on someone wearing fur, that's one more person who will always associate the animal-rights movement, including legitimate groups like the ASPCA, with nutjobs and lunatics. People who might otherwise have been potential volunteers become enemies instead.

So way to go PETA. You do harm to animals.

Their over-zealous attitude almost makes me think that other animal rights activists must be embarrassed to be seen near them. Kinda like how the Pope feels about the WBC.
EXACTLY! I'm a vegetarian volunteer for animal shelters, and every time people say that these dingbats represent my movement, I cringe. I support being a good person. Not being a dick to get attention.

I support the cause, but not their methods. Although their methods are leaps and bounds better than other similar organizations such as the ALF.

Sorry, but I love my meat. And the conviction PETA displays makes me even more convinced I am doing the right thing.

They have similarities to feminists (not in any offensive way :D), the main goal they have is fine, but many of them don't want equality, they want superiority. For instance the recent rat issue they have, I mean apart from it being a virtual rat how many people die in battlefield, who are stabbed or mutilated through out the game, by bullets and knives, and yet they go crazy over one rodent dying. If you going to have an issue with one rat killed through quick time events, compared to 100s of people being killed by player control and quick time events, I think your motives are a little screwed.

Also has PETA ever managed to do anything? "PETA can't change anything" phrase can't have come from no where.

I think there was a thread about PETA last week or so - just to briefly repeat what I wrote there, I think PETA are a bunch of lunatics. Their methods are at best distasteful and ineffective (using shock-tactics, specifically aiming propaganda at children, etc) and at worst order on the blatently criminal (they have been proved to have links to domestic terrorist groups such as the ALF). Another poster nicely summarised that what we should be pressing for in animal welfare, not animal rights, and this simple yet elegant fact seems to be several notches above and beyond the comprehension of your average braying PETA member.
